If he has 5 years to play 4 could he not transfer... sit out one year (redshirt type thing) ... and then have three years eligibility?

Staying at Tennessee would be a better option than going to the Big 12. He's going to be our work horse next year regardless.

no, the other guy is correct, if you haven't yet red-shirted and you transfer, you can use that year you have to sit out as a red-shirt year and play out the rest of your eligibility.
