If the past is any indication he probably will not do so. But things a crumbling down around him and he needs to step up, stop the coach speak (lying?) and address where LSU Football has been, where it is today and what specific steps have been taken to regain LSU's status in NCAA football.

He needs to be specific. What will be done to properly tutor and improve his QBs, who seem to not progress as rapidly as those at other schools. What will be done about the, in his words, greatest OL of all times that appeared to be the worst of all times? What will be done to improve an offense that was better than only 12 teams in the nation with players who were top 10 in the nation talent wise. What will be done about the clock problems from a staff and player perspective.

He needs to apologize for the product he has put on the field the last two years. The inability to utilize the talent on the team. The mind boggling play calling. Acknowledge any mistakes he and his multi-million dollar staff have made. He must stpp stating that all is well when we see the continuing erosion of the dominant program he inherited. The inability to take full advantage of the accumulated talent. The continuing "Duh" moments. Its not just the won/loss record, its how the team has performed which is well below their talent level . He needs to speak truthfully to the fan base which I can't recall him ever doing before.

If things continue down the path they are going, it is going to get very ugly and tarnish our great institution. Miles needs to man up and deal with it now before its too late. Negativism is a disease that is fast spreading and deadly. Alleva and Miles better recognize what is happening. Its building and every mistep he makes will make it grow faster.

Many state fans don't have a right to know. However, fans pay the bills and salaries of the staff. Also fans include future recruits, family and friends of future recruits.

Two years ago LSU was in a position to be the top program in college football and dominate. It was leading for team of the decade. Florida was second fiddle in the SEC. Alabama was an after thought. Numerous 5 star recruits had LSU at the top of their list. Then an 8-5 season happened followed by a mind numbing 9-4 season. Last year out of the top 25. This year close to it.

Where are those 5 star players? They jumped ship. And what happened to the poster boy for LSU recruits Russell Shephard? The dream recruit. Did his use inpire Seastrunk to trust that the staff will use him properly? Next year is a pivotal recruiting season in Louisiana. Will a repeat of this season effect in state recruiting? Didn't Landry question the use of players? Didn't Davis as well? What changed with Seastrunk, Ford?

The LSU ship is drifting in the wrong direction. Now is the time to take control of the situation before it is too late. Step up Coach Miles and address the situation. LSU football is not just the coaches and players. The fanbase is a vital component as well.

Great post. However I don't see coach Miles fixing the ship. He is middle of the pack coach and that is where we will be next year and the next. I hope he gets it fixed but I see no signs of this being accomplished by him and this staff.

This really is an excellent post/thread that deserves good ducussion. But there's no way for him to address all, or even a few, of the issues facing the 2010 team in the next month. It's "Recruit-Speak" time until Signing Day has passed, then it's "TAF Speak" for the rubber-chicken tour, followed by the Spring Game, then a gap before Media Day and Fan Day. Boy, are those events gonna be something this year, or what?

Maybe it should be a part of "Recruit-Speak" time. These issues need to be addressed to the recruits as well. They saw the same things we see. I think it would help recruiting. Acknowlege there is a problem and how you are going to fix it.

I'm sure negative recruiters are bringing it to the recruits attention.

What exactly would an apology accomplish? Would fans feel better? No. Would it make the school look better? No.

Do you follow recruiting at all? We went 8-5 last year and followed it up with a great recruiting class that included 4 5 star recruits. We are already in great position for the 2011 class before we have even started the 2010 season. We are going to lose out on some of the top recruits, even the ones from Louisiana. It happens to every school, especially the 5 star recruits that 1/2 a dozen teams go after hard.

In reality, I think wins and losses are the only thing that really matters for coaches these days. Or at least they are far and away the primary things.

I'm not looking for any apologies. But I think if Miles were to stop it with all the "want" and "finished second" crap and just speak like a normal human being, or even a normal coach, it would gain him just a smidgeon more of goodwill. That said, I don't think people change like that by his age.

The OP sounds like the folks clamoring for apologies and reparations for slavery.

That being said; I pretty much agree with what you had to say here, Methusaleh.

"Miles-speak" is humorous and witty when we're a top five-BCS team.

I knew back in 2007 it would start to get on my nerves if this program would start to slip.

After this season, "Miles speak" is a bit grating.

After watching a struggling team all season, do you think fans are in a mood to listen to Milesisms, ugh, umm, for thirty minutes? Do you listen to his radio show or press conferences? Certainly there is NO want by most fans.

I could care less... Actions speak louder than words and he has yet to followup and correct something he has said previously...

You don't want him addressing Tiger Nation. He is too stupid to get up in front of people and give a informative speech. If I was the coach and making 4mill plus I would apologize to the fans after every loss and take full responsibility. You have never heard Miles do that after any loss. I get tired of people saying he is a middle of the pack coach in the SEC. I would take anybody over this bozo.

I read this before every season and every game.

Great post. I'm fed up with Les who has to be the most overpaid person on the planet.

Miles never considered the LSU fanbase part of the equation down here from the moment he walked on campus. Big mistake!

Maybe that worked for him at OK State where he didn't have a fanbase and booster groups like the Gridiron Club and Bengal Belles. He blew off the Gridiron Club and Belles from the very beginning of his tenure here. He used weather as an excuse to miss his first Gridiron Club event and sent his assistant, Mack Butler, in his place. Butler squirmed around the podium and put on as good of a show as he could, knowing that Miles had really screwed up. Organizers of the Gridiorn Club scrambled in panic since they knew their organization would fail without head coach participation.

Miles got incensed that the Belles Football 101 program was named for Dorothy Faye McClendon instead of his wife. He evenually pulled that clinic under his control, now without support from the Belles and attendance plummeted. Although both groups still support Miles, his stubborness with them caused him to lose some support he's really going to need as the ground around him gets smaller and smaller.

As a result of not having cultivated the fanbase, he will sink faster as the water really starts to pour into his little skiff of support.
