Recruiting Philosphy

You better build flexibility in your team -- if you can... With our schedule every year, our opponents are really different. The talent disparity in teams is really getting closer and closer in college just like the NFL. You can't just line up any do what they know you are going to do year in and year out. The way you beat Alabama may be dramatically different than the weapons used to beat or defend yourselves against Georgia etc. etc.

This is extremely difficult to pull off with only 85 scholarships. Look at Fla. this year relative to last year, the one big difference was their inabiilty to effectively run the ball on critical downs. Harvin and Tebow really got in done on some critical plays in a couple games last year. This year was a different story.

Look at our team this year -- we were a couple key plays from having a 1 loss year or a 5 loss season. The point of this -- if you can have a couple 225 lb backs then great along with a couple space type guys like Harvin. One size just doesn't fit all in a long season with very different opponents. Also in our conference with the level of coaching, any real weakness will be absolutely taken advantage of play after play

We had some luck in 2007 but what we really had was a really balanced football team -- we could throw short, we had deep threats (D. Byrd), effective TE, power running game (Hester), great blocking fullback, QB who could run a little bit, a defense that was productive against power running teams, defense created some turnovers, a couple really good defensive backs and a pretty good tackling linebacker corp. Finally, the DL was led by probably the most dominating player in 20+ years at LSU -- Dorsey. I really think we go 14-0 with a healthy Dorsey. Bad luck -- chop block. Dorsey was every bit as dominant as the guy from NEbraska this year. We totally dismantled a very, very good Va. Tech team with him in the middle. Also, we had a pretty dang good punting and place kicking unit as well in 2007. Football is the ultimate team sport so you better had some real balance or you won't have a chacne to win it all playing in the SEC. Smaller conference teams have much less chance of having their weaknesses taken advantage of on any given weekend.

My one major beef is our inablility to take"the bird in the hand" with kids-i.e. C Michael,Sentimore,etc.We chase windmills in McFarland and LS and get burned more times than not.Don't burn your base.

Get over it. The coaches didn't want C Micheals. Neither did many other schools. He had a great year yes. He will never play at LSU. You can't say for sure he would have even signed here when all was said done. We got Ford when he gets on the field I only pray he makes you and all other C M lovers forget about him.

we didn't slow play him we never offered. Nor did TX or OK. We had Pratt and Ford room for Richardson if he wanted in. I'm sure you can see why we were saving a spot for him. Granted it didn't payoff. Can't cry over spilled milk.



ps If you paid attention to Mike Ford last year you would know he is a beast of a RB aswell.
