I don't know what Frank Wilson did in college to make you guys hate on him so much, but he had a huge effect on that O.P. Walker program. I played for Walker under Favre, before Wilson got there and we only had 1 kid get a D1 scholarship (wasn't me),not to mention we never came close to beating Curtis. When he got there every football player had to have a minimum 2.5gpa, they had to wear a tie to school everyday, attend study hall every evening, take ACT prep classes etc,(u have to be Walker alum to know how much of a change that was). Oh! and they went to the dome for first time in school history. He cared about those kids outside of football, and 3 of them are on NFL rosters Lewis (who is my cuz by the way),Wallace(steelers),Davis(chargers). This man can't be a complete jerk with all the success he's had. I think he'll b good for LSU. If we had him this year maybe we could've kept T. Reed in state. We'll see though.

According to Born we lost Reed when Davis committed in March, and he got that directly from Seastrunk's mouth.

Looks like you've got him. The word from an insider over on VolQuest is that it will be happening soon.

Congrats on stealing back stud DT Anthony Johnson. He'll be a lock to LSU once Frank Wilson makes it official.

One recruit isn't worth hiring a coach for... I want Wilson if he's clean and a good coach

Can we really trust a Tenn fan?

I guess I'd trust him more than a bama homer..

The guy who gave the info usually has a good handle of the goings-on within the program. He's not 100% sure, but he seems confident that it will happen soon.

Wilson is a great recruiter. Nice replacement for Porter.

Yun,good post.I have followed Wilson since the days of Buster.I have great respect for him.He did an outstanding job a O P Walker.I have no idea why he has been scorned by this board.Could be some fear he would steal a player or two.

Sounds like it might be a good move if true; getting a good recruiter with LA roots and taking same away from Tennessee.

I have only heard people on here question his character. Those that do have never given specifics. I do know his record as a HS coach in NO is beyond reproach. He was then elevated to a position in the LHSAA (I believe, it may have been a City-wide org). I would think this is a good replacement for coach Porter. With coach McCarthy (alledgedly) on the way out, that should serve as notice to all that they should play by the rules.

I follow recruiting as much as anyone and I have no idea where he gets this wrap from, other than his efforts of recruiting LA kids away from LSU. LSU could do a lot worse. He has a chance to be good at LSU.

Nice post.I remember Curtis used a trick play to beat Walker in the dome when Wilson was coaching. Don't know him personally but I think he would be would a great recruiter at LSU.

From reading "Meat Market", it seems Wilson has a good relationship with J.T. Curtis.

Assuming he is going to be hired as the new RB coach, my question is this: can he actually coach RBs? I know he's a good recruiter, but can be actually coach up the RBs.

Also, is the RB coach responsible for which RB goes in for specific plays? (Example: Running Scott on an option play, not running Williams or Holliday more than once a game.) If so, than Porter was lacking in that area.

Looks to be an upgrade from Porter.

USM Bio

quote:

Frank Wilson spent the last three seasons at Ole Miss as the running backs and assistant special teams coach before coming to Southern Miss. He coached BenJarvus Green-Ellis, who was only the second Rebel running back to rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons. He also mentored Mico McSwain to honorable mention Freshman All-America honors in 2005.

I'm liking this more and more.

Montario Hardesty somehow had his career turned around. If he was under Wilson, then we would be in good hands with him.
