FootballScoop is hearing that an assistant coach in the SEC was asking coaches last night if they thought he should go with Tommy Tuberville to Notre Dame if Tubs got the head coaching job in South Bend. This makes us wonder if Tuberville has his agent, Jimmy Sexton, in contact with Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick. Our source tell us Tubs has several coaches already in mind for his next job, a plan that could very well include Texas running backs coach Major Applewhite as his offensive coordinator. We hear Tuberville was very complimentary of Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson in a radio interview yesterday, and thought Notre Dame might be wise to go after Johnson. You wouldn’t think the former Auburn head coach would make those comments if he was very interested in the Notre Dame job….or is Tubs playing the cards just right?

Doesn't Sexton have a history of "floating" one client in the mainstream while negotiating for another behind the scenes for the same job? Keeping one name open while the other has no attention or distractions? Which other client would he be shopping to ND? Nutt?

Seriously doubt that. I know he has three in a row on us, but that doesn't necessarily make him a great coach. His big knock is still that he can't live up to big expectations. When you start the year at #5 and end up unranked with 4 losses and playing you way out of the bigger bowl game by losing to your in-state rival, well, you get the picture. I don't see ND biting on that one.
