Why isn't this guy a coach somewhere? He seems to know his football and would probably make quite a bit more money coaching in the college ranks than being an announcer. He's usually spot on when calling a game and predicting plays...and when giving his opinion of what play should be run. Maybe it's all of the extra crap involved with being a headcoach that doesn't interest him.

He is pretty damn good. I dont know if he is a coach. Just because he can call the plays, He may not be a good teacher or motivator. Hes a journalist

He's more than a journalist....

After playing for three teams in the World Football League from 1974-75 (New York Stars, Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Wind), Danielson was a laborer in a sheet metal plant when he signed with the Detroit Lions as a free agent in 1976. Danielson became the third all-time leading passer in Lions history before a trade sent him to Cleveland in 1985. He spent four seasons at Cleveland, retiring following the 1988 season. During his 13-year career, Danielson passed for 13,764 yards, ranking him 20th on the all-time list when he retired. He enjoyed his best seasons in 1980 and 1984, when he threw for 3,223 and 3,076 yards respectively.

A graduate of Purdue University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in industrial management, Danielson passed for 2,748 yards in three seasons for the Boilermakers. He earned a Master's degree in physical education from Purdue in 1976.

You would think a degree from Purdue would get you a better job than "a laborer in a sheet metal plant".

Maybe he took that temporarily waiting for a break in pro football.

The guy seems to be pretty solid.

I think he'd be a great coach for LSU if Miles leaves. He knows the SEC very well from doing the games for CBS. I think LSU could get him for fairly cheap as well. He usually points out all the mistakes Les makes so at least we wouldn't have to worry about having an incompetent coach. He'd be a great recruiter too since he is famous from being on tv.

who cares if he doesn't know how to say their names. As long as he can coach them up! which I believe he could do.

I'm just joking. I'm only in my 20s. But seriously, Danielson would be a great coach. I don't understand how some of you can't see this. It would probably guarantee getting the CBS broadcast every week as well which would be a great thing for recruiting.

It may be that he'd be a good coach, but just because he's good at seeing things from the booth or was good as a player doesn't automatically translate to success as a coach. Happens all the time. If he did get into coaching, he probably should start as a QB coach. Now that would be an area where he could probably provide some immediate help to LSU.

edt: and belated Happy Thanksgiving.

Gary Danielson has one of the cushiest jobs ever. He gets paid to watch college football and talk about it. Why would he give it up to enter a high-stress job that offers very little job security?
