Someone claims you have to win your conference to go to the bcs championship game. I say false. What says the board?

Oklahoma in 2003 should settle that argument. They lost in the Big 12 title game, but we still played them in the BCS Championship Game.

Seems like they talked about making it a rule but it never got passed. Dont think you gotta win your conf to go.

Pretty sure that it isn't an official criterion, but it would be incredibly unlikely.

Also, UGA said not so in 2007, but Richt was being a count.

That was true in 2003 but I think after all the complaints that it wasn't USC and LSU you probably won't see that again but I could be wrong.

The rule has not changed. You DO NOT need to win your conference to go to the BCS NCG.

Nebraska and Oklahoma have both done it.

they havent changed that rule.

Nebraska and OU both played in the NC game without winning their conference. Nebraska didnt even win their division

They can't change it. What would happen if Notre Dame ever went 8-3?

Don't know if it is a official rule but I was under the impression that the situation with Georgia set a precedent - No conference championship no BCS championship.

Do you have to now? No.

Do I think you should have to/they should change the rule? Yes.

Whether it is a rule or not - this was the overwhelming reason to keep Georgia out of the 07 BCS championship game and allowed lsu in. At the time everyone agreed this was the way it should be.

rule should simply be you have to make the conf championship game, not necessarily win it.

If the BCS bowls are decided by CONFERENCE tie-ins, then how can you credibly say with a straight face that you are there representing your conference when you didn't even WIN said conference?
