I consider myself knowledgable about football, but by no means an expert on te science of the game. I've been talking with my co-workers (mostly Georgia and Florida fans because I work in South GA) about our games so far this year. Granted, their UF & GA fans, but they'e agreed to me that our offense doesn't really have the "spark" that's it had in the past...there's no "play maker". For instance, no Jacob Hester to come in and make a big play when it's needed.

How come we don't see the type of plays we did in 2008ish? Holiday sneaking in and squatting (he may have been standing) behind the O-line....the infamous fake field goal....4th and short magic...things like that.

Is it play calling, or do we just not have the talent to be a little ballsy anymore? What happened to the LM that insprired the little squirrel picture (LSU hat and gigantic balls) that was going around not too long ago....

I'm certainly not throwing in the towel...I love my team...just curious as to why what I would refer to (again, not a football expert) as the style of play seems so..... boring and reserved now?

the playmakers are there in the skill positions. either the plays aren't being called to get them the ball enough or someone isn't getting the ball to them. But I've seen people running down the field wide open on several occasions.

Its not that. I talked to a friend of mine last nite, a high school O-coordinator and definite future head coach. I asking what he thought about the game. He said LSU is just as good or better than Florida, and no doubt, we should have won the game. His opinion & mine, Miles is gunshy and not letting his playmakers make plays. Lets hope he fixes this shite soon.

We were in the shotgun on 4th down so that T-Bob wouldn't get thrown into the QB.

There is no identity.
The Coaches can't game plan without an identity.
The players can't execute unless coached up.

If Miles keeps beatin' his head on the same wall, he'll bleed, but he thinks he'll eventually break through. The question is, will anyone be around to watch it?

I think everyone is asking that question. It seems that the players were having a lot more fun then.

the limited playbook is pretty boring. My biggest question about playmakers is why are we not getting the ball to dickson more. this alone would help jefferson develop a little more. he has 12 receptions all year!

the stupid check with the sideline deal is what causes us the problems-- get in the huddle call a play and don't have illegal motion and run the damned play

It's a good question and I think we are all perplexed by our lack of production on offense. IMHO, it all boils down to an underacheiving and over matched offensive line plus a seriously flawed qb prospect. You quite rightly use hester as the missing 'playmaker' example but any serious evaluation of why we are less sucessful now, than then, will lead you directly to the oline. If you go back to the videos of '07 you will see we more times that not owned the line of scrimmage...add quinn johnson to the mix and you can see why hester, scott and williams had holes, creases and many times were not challenged until they reached the second level. Now, regretfully, our backs are barely getting the rock before they have to break or avoid tackles. JJ, who is a talented and intelligent prospect, has got to understand that his mechanics just ain't cutting it. two weeks ago the advocate had a very telling picture of JJ throwing the football. what I saw was not good. he looked more like jim palmer or goose gossage unleashing a fastball than dan marino or jon elway throwing darts to receivers where only they could catch the ball. We've all heard the phrase, "he has a quick release" and it always refers to highly accurate qbs who get the ball to their playmakers as they clear and in stride. I believe in our coaches because I think it is ludicrous to think they suddenly forgot how to teach the skills that have been so successful in the past. I also hope that with these two weeks we've had to regroup that those same coaches have reopened position battles and that a more competetive nature in practice will bring us either better play...or new faces getting a chance to prove their mettle.
