my first thread, i'm sure it will probably suck, nevertheless

Do you think russell shepard apparently staying at quarterback is a mistake? why not have a conversation with him going something like this:

"Russell, we no longer will work with you as a quarterback. you will not be a quarterback in the NFL (mike vick was ok, vince young disappointment). we need you to be our Percy Harvin, our sometimes receiver, sometimes running back. we want you to work full time on that, learn the slot, get one on one with linebackers and safeties and use your elusiveness. this will be for the team's good and your own personal good for the future. its give you a better chance to continue your football careet post LSU."

i know the kid supposedly said he wants to play quarterback. did we promise him the would play q-back?

First off, congrats on having the balls to start your first topic.

I think it would be in Shep's best interest to focus full time on whatever position he projects to be in the NFL. Although, I can't imagine him not having success as a QB with his athleticism, at least at the college level...

Listen. Everyone experiments in college with their sexuality. I know I did.

Wait. What are we talking about?

I'm just trying to help you bump your first thread. Until you get someone intelligent to respond, you'll have to settle for my smart arse remarks.

My apologies.

What you're saying about Shepard is what I think Florida should've done with "The Chosen One".. Tebow is a FREAKING BULL.. They should have had him playing fullback or running back and he would be beast in the NFL... I don't see Tebow doing much in the NFL as QB, but he could surprise me... So basically.. I don't think you're idea is stupid.. And I wouldn't mine trying Les Miles out at a position if it will help our offense which is ranked in the 100's...

How does anyone know what Shepard can do in a game yet though? He never gets a chance to do anything.

i think he's too talented to not take the snap several times a game. however, i think he should be on the field alot more. but you also cant expect a true freshman to learn the entire offense from a RB/QB/WR perspective.

But i am pissed the coaches havent installed at least a handful of plays like this.

Its amazing that he can still pick up 8 yards when everyone in the stadium knows he is just going to run off tackle.

hes a special talent we need to utilize as much as possible, thats why he played so much against florida

i know the o line is hurting, but les hasnt played in quite some time, so i dont know that experimenting with him at different positions would be helpful... i guess long snapper isnt out of the question though?

I don't know. Tebow may go down as one of the greatest college athletes ever. would you trade to be a fullback in the NFL? He's not just some Eric Crouch or Brad Smith. Now with Shepard, like i said, know one can really know what the guy can do as of now, much less enough knowledge about him to make him change positions, not even Miles

Chewstick,

That's a great point. Tebow's place in history has been cemented. Even if he never plays a down in the NFL, he's going to have a career as an analyst for the college game.

Either way, his celebrity at Florida should lead to a long career off the field.

Hypothetically speaking about Tebow being a running back for UF before he was QB. He is without doubt a historical COLLEGE QB. But he could have been successful in college and in the NFL running the ball, is all I'm saying... But really. Russel Shepard (what little we have seen and what he has been allowed to do) could probably do anything he wants as athletic as he is...

hahahaha ! True. He may could punt. or give K Dub a break and stand right on the edge of the out of bounds line and let JJ pitch it to him and then run out of bounds...

Shepard definitely has the athletic ability, you are right. i would like him to see the field in whatever way he can, but hell i think he deserves a shot to be a quarterback first especially considering our lack of offensive efficiency as of late.(I'm by no means bashing JJ, but two quarterback systems have been proven to some extent)

He was leaning to Texas until they told him he would not be given a chance at QB. Yes, Les promised him a legitamate shot at QB

seems like florida with harvin was able to get him in mismatches in coverage against a linebacker or safety anytime they wanted. he would go out 5 yards, stutter step and cut across the field with the coverage man trailing. tebow would hit him in stride. they killed us with this play over and over. why can't we do this with shepard?

i'm thinking as shepard being the harvin player (receiver). OL wouldn't have to block for long, should be an easy throw, just to get the ball in the guys hands in the open field for once.
