First, let me start by saying I'm not, and never have been a Coach. My knowledge of the game is probably a bit higher than the average fan, but far from being in the 'coach' range at all.

This morning when I read Carl's Column that is pinned at the top of the Rant, a couple of comments he made seemed to jump out. Basically, he said what I and many others have wanted to say but didn't feel qualified to make.

Please excuse me while I point them out. This is not to bash or cast aspersion on our Coaches, but come on.....these are just obvious things that need to be addressed.

First....."But there is no excuse for lining up offside, especially after you've already been penalized for it."

This is self-explanatory. I am a fan of CLM but, really,....grab the player up by his pads and let him know that this will not be tolerated. You can't 'love' a player into correcting this....he has to be focused on the problem and made to understand that if he can't correct this (preferably before the game) then his rear will be left to contemplate it....on the bench. Period!

Second....."For too much of the game, the Tigers looked undisciplined and uncoached."

Maybe not all who watched the game felt this....maybe all did.....regardless, Carl pointed it out .....and I agree. JMHO.

and..lastly........
"This team's lack of attention to detail is going to turn 10-2 talent into an 8-4 season if they're not careful." uh,.....DUH!

This could possibly be the statement of the year, pertaining to this LSU team. If you are satisfied , excited, disappointed, or just plain hurt and bleeding over the results thus far.....you'd have to agree that it seems that the attention to detail that is needed by any program, has not been maintained.....especially this year....(did this grow from the helter skelter year that was 2008?)

I offer no answers for these observations, just wanted to note that they seemed to jump off the page as I read the Column. (by the way, great read Carl)

I'm a glass half-full type of fan...but really.........I'm not blinded by my support.
Please Coaches....let's address and fix these.....Please!

Geaux!!!

Agree.

I think they could've called Alem for being offsides a couple of other times also.

BengalBen, that was my observation also.
and by the way...'the attention to detail' point was aimed across the board, although ST and Offense tend to be more needy of having this addressed.

it's been here IMO. it's why the 06 team didn't win it all, and why 07 damn near didn't.

Not wanting this to turn into a bash post......here are my observations, in addition to the above.

Please make your 'constructive' observations as well.

Our Defensive Backs have shown marked improvement from last year....I'd grade a B.
Our Linebackers have shown even more improvement than the Backs......grade, B+.

D-Line.......well, the same penalties and lack of rush and sacks leads me to believe that this is the weak area of our D. Grade D.

If Brick doesn't address these.....well, thats a Miles Problem. (or Chavis)

Overall our Defense is much improved over last season, but we shouldn't be satisfied with improvement. We want to get all the way back to Tiger D as we have known it.

Now....Offense.....well, thats a whole 'nuther post.

Please offer your observations, but don't bash for the sake of bashing....that does no good.

Un-bashingly said .. the coaching staff needs a talent upgrade also.

It is called the ability to execute fundamental football technique. LSU's inability to execute shows when when all the mental errors are made. I lay all of this on the Coaching staff that is, in my opinion, over paid.

Get real, guys. We got beat by a much better team last nite. The Tigers played hard for 4 quarters, including FLA's last drive where they could've surrendered more points.

OUR PROBLEMS ARE PRETTY APPARENT - WE DON'T HAVE A QB WHO CAN CONSISTENTLY GET THE BALL IN THE HANDS OF PLAYMAKERS. ADD TO THAT A TOTAL LACK OF CREATIVITY AND RHYTHM IN OUR PLAYCALLING, AND WE'RE VERY EASY TO DEFEND AGAINST. WE HAVE ONE THING GOING FOR US, AND THAT'S OVERALL STRENGTH AND TOUGHNESS, WHICH ALLOWS US TO PLAY ANY TEAM CLOSE.

I don't blame Crowton. He's limited right now because he still has to protect Jefferson. Jefferson is progressing and is still playing well and making decent decisions. The line is not protecting him well enough and not opening up enough holes for the backs. They need a good interior lineman to pick up where Big Herm left off. The team discipline does need to improve and Alem in particular. It is better than 2008 however. I predict 9-3 (loss to Bama and Arkansas) and Cotton Bowl.

We need to stand behind the coaches and the team. They are class guys.
