Just looking for some suggestions. Yes I know some arse holes will comment on how it bad it looks but I am looking of feedback on paint vs stain....What do you think?

stain for sure. you want peoples eyes drawn to the ball, not the box

Get ya some wood putty for the nails. Make sure that your nails are slightly recessed then fill. Sand smooth. Stain. They make wood putty for light staining and dark staining. Pay mind to that and do it right. Prom is right, painting would take away from the ball. Good luck. Nice so far btw.

I'd stain it. The colors on the football is enough to say it's LSU from a distance.

I would stain it a natural stain. A colored stain tends to not be what you want as for as color is conserned. It will not be a true color.
