If I hear how Jared Mitchell just needs more baseball reps one more time, I am going to puke. He is playing as well as anyone in Omaha who supposedly has more "reps" than him.
It's almost as if they are suprised that an intelligent, dedicated, and outstanding person like Jared Mitchell isn't quite yet a baseball player because he is a black football player. Sorry to get off on the racism angle, but I feel an undercurrent of it everytime Mitchell is involved in any part of the game. Why can't they just say, "This guy is extraordinary and will be a great big leaguer." Stop all the, "As soon as he learns to play the game" crap.
And if you can't tell, I'm a Beri Boy myself, so I feel we must stand up for him.

you gotta be kidding me. i think those 3 dudes in the boothes are idiots, but they are right. j mitch DOES need more baseball reps. if you followed the team all season, all you have to do is watch him run the bases. he needs to play more baseball.

Its because the sky is the limit with his talent and he is just a good college player now. But with his tools he could be unreal. Once he gets a good hitting coach.

In baseball he's consider the equivalent of a white possession type WR.

Point taken, but how much is he messing up or learning, comparatively to other players. I just think they are overdoing it a bit.
Anyway,

I think it's great Mitchell is getting so much positive coverage, especially after many of his own fans hammered him all year.

But they really need some new material.

They are talking more about it from a pro point of view, he's gonna get tore up by lefthanders and breaking balls when he gets to the minors but he will adjust.

The "overdoing it" is really just repeating for the sake of people who haven't been watching every single minute of every single game, which is a substantial portion of the audience. You and I have heard it 100 times because we're paying close attention to every minute of it.

Funny thing though, I'm sick of it too, but I'm sick of hearing how unbelievably fast and athletic he is, not the part about how he needs to learn baseball. I mean, it's true, but if they didn't say "Carl Crawford" 10 time a game, I'd swear that he was Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Rickey Henderson, Willie Mays and Hank Aaron all rolled into one.

It is not an insult. What they are saying is that this guy has the tools to be an stud player in the show. They are right though because he is still learning the game. Baseball is more of a game of experience than it is talent. I do agree with you that they are overdoing it a bit, but they repeat themselves every game.

I actually get the same vibe when I hear them talk about him. They act like he just picked up the bat last week. The best was when they said he was "articulate"

Since Jared seems to be getting better against all types of pitching with every at bat you can't say they are wrong. His dive for the single that sent the runner to 3rd is just a display of that lack of experience. He is a big time major league prospect who is improving rapidly and is a lot of fun to watch. Pitchers fear the guy at the plate and on the bases.

As Bad Cat said, if you have somebody like that to talk about during the down time why not? It could be worse, they obviously have not figured out that Chad Jones has a NC ring too!

What do we expect. These ESPN guys are awful. I still don't get why they don't have the Peterson guy up there instead of HOF guys that don't know shite about the actual players, just the "game".
