Trovon played well last night in the scrimmage against E.D. White. There were no stats kept for the scrimmage, but he had several good runs and a couple of good passes starting at the quarterback position

I hope Coach Cooper can get Trovon to commit to LSU, but i have a feeling he's leaning towards other schools out of state

Well what was with the rumor that he had cooled on Texas because of their number of WRs?

With your info my guess would be Ok, Texas.......then USC/Oregon.

Missouri is the only surprise.

Just like Florida and Harvin, they're probably selling Reed on being the next Maclin.

I really think if I'm forced to put money on the situation then I put it on us. Why do you think he wants to leave the state? I've been a bit worried that that might be the case.

But I think it could come down to us and Oklahoma.

Thanks Rod!

Thibodaux's Trovon Reed (1) gets off a pass as E.D. White Catholic's Bryce Casteigne pressures him during Wednesday's spring scrimmage at John L. Guidry Stadium in Thibodaux.

THIBODAUX — Even though they played four, 12-minute live quarters, the main objective of Wednesday's spring football scrimmage between E.D. White Catholic and Thibodaux wasn't about winning.

It was about getting their players on the field against another opponent and evaluating their rosters before the end of spring practice.

And both coaches — E.D. White's Kyle Lasseigne and Thibodaux's Dennis Lorio — were pleased with their team's performances in Wednesday's scrimmage held at Nicholls State's John L. Guidry Stadium.

"We did a lot of good things, so we're pleased, and we got a lot of action in," Lorio said. "I don't think we had any serious injuries, but we felt good about it. We've got a long way to go, but I like our kids' approach and the effort they played with."

Thibodaux entered the scrimmage fresh off a 10-1 overall record and a trip to the Class 5A quarterfinals in 2008, but Lorio said its a new season. Thibodaux only returns five starters (two offense, three defense) from last year's team.

"This was a big test to get them to play against another team," Lorio said. "Just like any game, there are going to be some real good things, and there are going to be some things that we have to get a lot better at, but we're real proud of the young guys and how they performed."

In the scrimmage, Thibodaux scored five touchdowns, while E.D. White had two.

E.D. White, which went 4-6 overall last season with a trip to the Class 3A playoffs, return 11 starters (five offense, six defense) from last year.

Lasseigne said the Cardinals goal during the Spring was to become a more physical team with their power rushing attack. E.D. White dressed 76 players for Wednesday's scrimmage, but had 20 out with various injuries, which Lasseigne said was due to the most physical spring practice E.D. White has had in several years.

"We have to get back to being a hard-nosed football team," Lasseigne said. "We've been known for that for years, but we got away from it for a little while, and we want to get back to it. We're going to physically try to beat people up front, and if we can't do that, then we're not going to beat people at all."

While both teams had their highs and lows during the scrimmage, most of the attention was centered on Thibodaux quarterback Trovon Reed, who is one of the nation's top recruits entering his senior season.

It didn't take Reed long to get going in the scrimmage. On the Tigers' first two offensive drives, he guided his team down the field for a pair of touchdowns. Thibodaux's first touchdown was a 10-yard pass from Reed to fullback Brandon Duncan, while the second was a 28-yard run into the end zone by Reed.

Later in the scrimmage, Reed tossed touchdown passes of 24 yards to Duncan (64 yards receiving on three catches, 45 yards rushing on nine carries), 53 yards to Ryan Johnson and 17 yards to Karmichael Green (three catches, 75 yards).

Reed finished the scrimmage completing 12-of-18 passes for 234 yards with four touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for 79 yards on nine carries and caught two passes for 28 yards.

Lorio said Reed has become more accustomed to the Tigers' offense this season. Last season, it took Reed nine weeks to get a feel for the offense, but this year, Lorio said the explosive quarterback is more prepared for the role.

"His knowledge of the game has greatly improved," Lorio said, "and we feel good about that."

Lasseigne said the Cardinals' defense was excited to play against Thibodaux's explosive offense. In the scrimmage, E.D. White forced two turnovers and sacked Reed twice.

"We're not going to see Trovon Reed every week, and thank God for that," Lasseigne said. "But it was a good test. Our kids aren't going to back down from that challenge.

"They know he's one of the best players in the state, so that kind of got us excited to come here and play and see what we can do."

In Wednesday's scrimmage, E.D. White scored its two touchdowns on a 5-yard run from running back Dontrea Harris and a 1-yard run from Terry Dial. Cardinals quarterback Grant Chaisson completed 5-of-13 passes for 30 yards, while fullback Dylan Ledet rushed seven times for 89 yards.

Although spring drills are over, Lasseigne said the Cardinals must continue to get better by dedicating themselves to summer workouts.

"The most important part of our football team and season is starting (Wednesday), and it's going to end the day we step on the field against Vandebilt in our first game," Lasseigne said. "That's the most important thing for us. That's when we have to beat people, from this day until the first ball game."
