Just getting opinions on whatever thinks are the best hotels & restaurants in the Hoover area. I've stayed in 3 or 4 different hotels over the years and have eaten in quite a few different restaurants but nothing stands out. I did eat in a place last year not to far from the stadium that was run by a Tiger fan but don't remember the name.

The Winfrey is not an option as I usually get 2 rooms, one for the wife and I and the other for my son and his friends, and I'm not willing to spend that kind of money.

Right now I got a 2 bdrm suite at the Marriott Residence Inn in Hoover for $159 Thursday through Sunday. My son has HS finals on Wednesday so can't make it over until Thursday.

I will be staying at the Hyatt Place Suites in Hoover. It's only about 3 miles from the Hoover ball park. No restaurant but it has buffet breakfast in the coffe area for guests. There are restaurants all around it but bring your Tony's.

I stayed there last year and found it to be a great location.

Crazy Cajuns Boiling Pot on 280 is the place your talkin bout, small but has some good things. If you stay on 280 for lunch I would recommend Taziki's, Miss Myra's, and Mamma Goldberg's.

Another quick place is Chipotle, almost identical to Izzo's illegal burrito. If your in the mood for Mexican, Pablo's Mexican Cantina at Lee Branch, Superior Grill, Sol Y Luna.

For seafood I would go to Fish Market or Up the Creek (havent been in a while). Cajun Steamer disappoints as a restaurant not bad for drinks though.

B-B-Q, Full Moon and Johnny Ray's are okay but Miss Myra's is better than both. New place at the Summit on 280 called Sweet Bones has some huge Po-Boys and good brisket. The summit also has same thing every other town has if your a cookie cutter type...PF Chang's, Fleming's, CPK, Romano's, Cheesecake Factory, Grape, Zoe's Kitchen, Johnny Rocket's.

These are all places on the Southside of Birmingham around 459.

I'd also like to recommend Jubilee Joe's. It's very close to the stadium...on hyw. 150 just about a quarter of a mile on the other side of the interstate. Food is decent, we tried the fried catfish for the first time on the last visit, and it was good and hot, not greasy. They have the best restaurant cooked crawfish in the area, IMO, too. Owner is very cool, and it's my understanding that the baseball team eats there at least once every year during the tourney....

On another front, if you do go on up to 280, check out Max's Deli in the Colonnade (sp?). It's a locally owned NY style Deli. Just got back from there, and it was VERY tasty!! Great Pastrami on Rye!

Cajun Steamer in Patton Creek is much closer to Regions Park, and there is LSU stuff around the bar. Ate there last night and royal reds were incredible. Hope you enjoy your stay and

Not closer than Jubilee Joe's, I believe... the Steamer is okay... but really in more of a chain restaurant kind of way.

No matter where you sleep or where you eat:

Never heard of Jubilee Joe's before - just moved here end of last year. I'll definitely have to check it out. May wait until SEC tourney days and hopefully run into some other Tigers!

They had a big crawfish boil last week, and I met a bunch of other LSU folks. My 15 year old wore her P&G #15 jersey, and got a lot of GEAUX TIGAHS!!

The food isn't perfect, but it's somewhat more authentic than the steamer, and it's a one shop, one owner kind of place. VERY friendly.

I am putting a lot of pressure on the owner to have an "LSU corner"! He's actually got BAMA junk on the wall...

So when you go in, ask to sit in the LSU section!!!

Sounds like I'm a week late! Story of my life, I guess.
I also had some crawfish at steamer, and they tasted good, but small and pricy - just wanted to eat some crawfish and have a few beers.
So is Joe's a market also? Would love to find somewhere locally to get good seafood.
Cool talking with you.

They are better at Joes. Just still putting the Tony's or whatever on after cooking... but they are cooked in well-seasoned water, and fairly decent sized. There were several that we even ate the claws. Sundays from 1-5 is all you can eat for $29. Two sunday's ago, my 14 year old put away 15 Lbs. Good thing she wasn't even all that hungry!

What brings you to the 'ham? We've been here 11 years, and would be glad to talk to you about home and such.

I will let you know if I get word on when the baseball team is expected to eat at Joe's. They've eaten there for at least the past 2 years....

Oh.. and no market at Joe's. Just food and bar. There is a "Cajun Cleaver" opening up in the same strip mall, though... homemade sausages and boudin. Tried some samples at the crawfish boil. Not bad.

also, my family has jokingly taken to calling this place the Cajun Cleavage!!

Thanks for all of the info. We moved here so that I could finish my third and fourth year of medical school. Did the first two years in Kansas City (great place to live except for Big XII ). We lived in Hattiesburg prior to that are life-long south MS natives. Glad to be back in the southeast for sure - even if it is in the heart of BAMA land - oh well, makes it sweeter when we beat 'em a few miles down the road this year.
We live in Bluff Park, so pretty near Joe's. Will have to try it out. If you do hear about team being there, please let me know. My 8 year old would literally eat that up. We were in Omaha last year, walked up to Rosenblatt right when Tiger bus was pulling up and got to see everybody get off. Boys were a little shy, but my oldest did get Jared Mitchell's auto on his cap. He loves it.
Sat through 2-3+ hours of lightning delay against UNC - fortunately sitting in grandstand. Next night, when Clark tied it with a bomb in the 8th, my son when crazy. Then when UNC hit grand slam in 9th, he burst into violent sobs for at least 10 minutes. One of proudest moments of my life - I've got another true Tiger!

Will have to try Cajun Cleavage out as well. Haven't had any good boudin in a while - not much in Kansas!
Thanks again for all the info and

In vestavia hills in front of the rave movie theater on highway 31 is a place called new Orleans food and spirits. Much better food for the price than Cajun steamer. It has a bar there not sure how wild It gets though. This guy who owns it also owns two restaurants back in new Orleans. French bread sent up daily . Everything there taste like back home.

The best value for hotels is the Riverchase Inn. It used to be a locally owned mom and pop run hotel, then bought and branded Best Western, and recently changed to Days Inn.

Right across the highway from the Riverchase Mall, with several places to eat close by. Sam's Club next door.

The rooms have frig and microwave, and the best feature is full cable service, which includes CSS that has all the SEC baseball games. If you are up there for the tourny, but do not want to go to every game, this is a great way to enjoy the other games.

I made reservations several months ago and got a $72 rate.

Less that 3 weeks to go. Looking forward to it. This will be our 6th year going, 4th straight. My son and his friend bought an LSU championship shirt after the final and then got the majority of the players to sign it as they walked out. Even at 15 he wears it proud in GA. We've been here for 20 years but raised him as a Tiger fan.

Went to his first LSU game outside the GA dome at SC last year. Great game and we had a blast. With him in HS school and all the sports it was one of the few regular season games we could make. Hope to get to AL and GA this year.

We'll definitely try some of the recommendations from above as we are always looking for good eats while we are at the tournament.

Do you know if this is the same as the New Orleans Food & Spirits on LaPalco Blvd in Harvey? If this is the same owner and he is able to replicate the quality, this is great news! I will be making the drive down from Chattanooga to B'Ham just to eat there!

We're heard great things about their food as well. Word is that the service is slow and less than hospitable, however. We may break down and try to eat there again, but the first time we tried, they told us at the door that it'd be a hour's wait for a two top, and then as we walked back to the car, we saw two tables right by the window that were open, bussed, and empty. MrMomma has a long history in food service, and this really set him against this place.

We lean towards Crazy Cajuns and Joe's, because like I said, they are one-owner type joints, the food is close to home, and both of the owners are friendly and always seem glad to see LSU people!
