He had the same DL coach as Tyson Jackson who went #3. I don't think coaching was the problem.

You clearly didn't watch last year then. Also, TJ got drafted as high as he did due to the lack of pure 3-4 DEs in the draft. All right pieces fell to him due to so many teams converting to the 3-4. TJ was great his Sophomore year, then stayed inconsistent after that. I blame that on coaching, plain and simple. No discipline and no technique, I'm glad Lane isn't coaching our line anymore.

In 3 years, he had 4 DL drafted (2 in the top 5 picks): RJF, Chase Pittman, TJ and Dorsey. I don't question Miles' decision to make a change at DL coach, but I don't think it's fair to say that RJF's DL coaching alone kept him from doing better in the draft.

Not trying to bash our coaches, but a lot of these guys were drafted b/c of there physical ability and potential not their skill level, look Dorsey struggled last year, and they don't fire a d-line coach for no reason

Our entire line underachieved last year. Also, in the year before...our line was clearly underachieving then too. Dorsey got hit with a injury but we were getting little to no production from anyone else. Teams starting ripping us with big plays. The problems on defense started last year and they carried onto this year. It was short-sighted of Miles to get a big head and not realize this, thus the promotion from within. The difference from that year, is we made plays when we needed too. Like Beckwith's INT in the SEC Championship game. Tenn was moving and in position to score if anyone remembers right. Defense clearly was missing a gear as compared to previous years. South Carolina exposed our scheme and it was never right since, carrying to this year. Losing Bo, the seniors and promoting from within was just icing and all the ingredients for fail this past year...

I agree. Which means RJF's potential had a lot more to do with him landing near the bottom of the 7th round than his DL coaching.

look Dorsey struggled last year
Out of 96-128 starting DL spots (depending on how many teams run 3-4 or 4-3 schemes), Dorsey ranked 44th in total tackles. He led all rookie DL in tackles and was 4th among rookie DTs in sacks. I'm not sure why there is this perception that he "struggled" so much, but he had a solid rookie year.

No doubt. I personally have no idea why the change was made at LSU but I have faith that it was best for LSU. My point is that it is nonsense to suggest that RJF's lack of DL coaching at LSU was the reason he dropped so far in the draft. Clearly, it is more than possible for a player to be coached by Earl Lane and be drafted higher than RJF was.

So who was Tyson Jackson's DL coach these last 3 years?

I'm not arguing about whether or not our DL coaching was good or bad, I'm disputing the notion that the DL coaching was the reason RJF didn't get drafted higher. With the same coaching, TJ went #3. So it was obviously possible to get drafted a shite load higher than RJF did with the same DL coaching he got. Something else about RJF was involved in his drop to the late 7th round.

my theory is Tebow cast a spell on him after he was bumpin his gums before the UF game

Tebow is Chuck Norris-esque when it comes to ending careers

Personally, I don't know squat about the position coaches. I think that Tyson's talent simply wasn't maximized in our defensive scheme last year, and NFL scouts realized that to a great extent, for him to go #3. I also didn't get the impression that he quit playing hard, like some posters have commented. But, I did get the impression that he was not utilized like we should have used him to make plays.

Anyone can blame the coaching, even clueless RANTards!

Francois needs some self motivation. He got lazy last year.

How was the technique wrong? Please be specific in your reply as it's easy to make blanket accusations. Were you in the band?

Everyone gets drafted on potential and ability. By no means, does your college, position coach, name get you a spot in the National Football League draft board.
