So I just finished watching Carandiru....thanks for mentioning it before on this board. It was an awesome movie, def. up there with City of God and Elite Squad for me as Brazilian movies go. The stories of the different prisoners were great and the final 30 minutes was amazing.
For those who haven't seen it, I would recommend it to you if you enjoyed City of God. I'm a fan of prison movies, and this is one of the best ones I've seen so far.

Glad you liked it. I especially like the way they integrated the backstory of the prisoners in, so that the film isn't focused on the prison the entire time. I'm a big fan of movies that are character driven as well (Dagger and Majesty being pretty cool characters).

looks good. gonna watch it. i would kill myself before i was gonna be admitted to a foreign prison.

Carandiru is actually based on a true story, at that. An overcrowded prison (the largest in Latin America) with one doctor, and a massive riot that really occurred.

is the alternate where he is out in the field in that shack? I cant remember. I remember that ending at least was disturbing as hell to me for some reason; kinda freaky.

No, that's the regular ending.
The alternate ending has to do with the reporter (Leguizamo). I don't want to spoil it, but I don't know if you want to rent the DVD just to see the ending, either.
