We're a lot closer to being ranked in the AP poll than the Coaches poll.

I say we do get in the top 25 of the AP poll, but we stay right outside the Coaches poll. Like #27 or 28.

the best thing is we are getting better each game. we should be rolling when the tournment gets here.

I know you younger guys live for those rankings, but unlike football where it aids and abets winning national hardware, in hoops it mostly just puts a bulls-eye on your back, especially for road trips.

Aiding the sell of new HC Johnson and LSU for recruiting purposes, is about the only use I can see of it right now.

Forget being ranked..just win!

the answer is yes. in the AP poll there were 6 teams between LSU and the #20 spot that had 1 or 2 losses since the last poll. also #17 texas lost twice and #19 minnesota lost twice. in the ESPN/USA today poll there were 9 teams between LSU and the #20 spot that had 1 or 2 losses. that could put LSU as high as 22 in both polls. and i would guess 24 at the absolute lowest.

and i do think it is important to be ranked, especially at this point in the programs progression. LSU is a good team, but they are not a sweet 16 team(hope i'm wrong). And i dont think you can put a price tag on having your highlight shown on sportscenter or your score read at the top of every hour on the radio. at this point in the programs progression, this free publicity is necessary IMO to getting the notoriety and in turn the calibur of player needed to be a top flight program.
