I'm trying to explain to my son (whom I'm taking to see LSU v. Auburn weekend before Mardi Gras) about Chris Jackson and the excitement of the basketball program in that era, including of course the game with Loyola Marymount (at which I was present). I tried doing a search for info on the game and I'm not having any luck.

Can anyone lend a hand?

Gathers played and scored I believe 48 points over Shaq and Roberts. He also gave the students the one finger salute. His performance waqs great that day. He died about a month later on the court in his conference tourney.

One of the best ever played.CJ had I believe 50(yeah 50)and the ball stayed up and down the floor at a breakneck pace.Truly a fantastic show.Final I think was 145-142 LSU if I remember correctly.

I was at that game too. Remember sleeping out for tickets? I used to have a crappy VHS tape of the game, need to see if I can find it.

Having trouble with the link, but I'm at work...

Those teams were sick...I think LMU averaged like 4.1 seconds a possession from throw in to shot...

One more thing that so memorable for me about that game -- every single LSU player was sucking air, looking at the bench to come out so they could catch their breath. Except Chris Jackson. To the very end he was "give me the ball, give me the ball, give me the ball."

I was there. Unbelievable. It was exhasting just to watch it. Didn't we play UNLV the same weekend?

After Chris Jackson turned his back on the National Anthem, I really have no use for him.

I agree specs. If he just would have played the game and left that stuff out. He was so incredible to watch.

Even JWs don't do that. They stand, but don't put their hand on their chest. Sam Perkins was a JW.
