when looking at a new job......is it all about the bottom line with actual salary or do you take into account time off, insurance, etc??

What do you consider a decent salary??? I know that will depend on the profession, but if you hear someone is making X dollars do you think they are doing ok.

How do those non salary items you listed not affect your bottom line? You should consider the value of all of the compensation and perks that you will make use of.

It really depends. A fresh college grad living with a roomate and still living humbly like a college student would probably be doing ok with a starting salary of $35,000 - $40,000 somewhere like Dallas, Atlanta, or Houston. Someone with a non working spouse and 2 kids would be struggling on that same amount.
