and by that I mean look at Utah who went 13-0 this year, beat the crap out of Alabama and below is their recuiting classes for the last 4 years.
#signed
2005 25 one 4 star
2006 25 one 4 star
2007 25 zero 4 star
2008 15 one 4 star

Yes, the majority of their classes were three and two stars. You think coaching and developement have any thing to do with winning and loosing?

what does their roster look like in seniority? Does utah have a strong redshirt program so a lot of their players are 5th year seniors??

I loved it during half time when one of the announcers said that all the players on Utah wouldn't even be considered to get recruited by Alabama.

Yes it does but if you look at past recruiting classes all the recent National Champions have been in the top 10 in recruiting .

Forgot this point, my best friend growing up plays for Utah right now. He took a two year mission and is a 24 year old junior. A good amount of their players are Mormon and are two years older than their competition. But I guess the downside is they don't play football for a while.

Do they have gyms and get to work out on their missions? They do get to improve their cardio, riding bikes everywhere.

Yes, I can translate it, in 2005, Utah signed 25 players and only one of them was a 4 star.

It improves your chances but doesnt always determine the outcome.

fwiw i would rather 10 5 stars than 10 3 stars

It could be that Utah coaches have an eye for the talent they need and they must look at something that "Rivals" type scouts don't see.

In the last 5 years they haven't had one recruiting class in the top 50.

Maybe like our society in general, very materialistic (re: scouts don't see) and do not pay attention to the intangibles such as desire, commitment, determination, intelligence, etc.

What would you rather have to work with, an 18 year old 4 star with desire, commitment, intelligence, determination, etc. or a 5 star who thinks his s_ _ _ don't smell ?

And USC is the exception to the rule almost all 4 and 5 star recruts and they still cant seem to get to the BCS championship.Without some help from the media.

Of course stars don't mean everything.. but it is nice to have em on your team. LSU has had some exceptional athletes of late and I'd love to see that continue.
