Hopefully LSU comes out on fire and JJ tears up GT....

I know I'll catch grief for this, but I can't shake the thought that - if (God forbid) JJ is hurt, or ineffective - that the time off has allowed Jarrett Lee to get back mentally into the game.

Have been re-watching some of the games and forgot just how well this kid played in stretches this year, before kind of tanking after the UGA game when he seemed to get a bit shell shocked. He's got a world of potential and his mistakes are coachable.

Just saying it won't shock me if he comes in in the second half and leads LSU to a furious rally against a suspect GT pass defense.

Flame away.

this is the frustrating part.

problem is, defenses KNOW he's not a running threat.

AT ALL.

Does being a hero mean he just doesn't play like crap? If that dude completes 10 passes with no INT's he will get a parade thru Tigerland...I think Hero is a strong word...

you don't need to run to be a good or great QB

if he can make it through one game without a pick six, it would be a miracle at this point.

true, but some mobility doesn't hurt.

certainly true, especially for a young qb. Being able to tuck it and run when you don't see what you like is going to be huge for RS next year. Should be able to mask some of his inexperience.

Until he learns how to look in more than 1 direction, keep his arse on the pine. Even JJ looked off DBs.

I also NEVER NOT ONCE EVER saw JL cross the line of scrimmage to run.

EVER.

even when the field was wide open to do so.

Being a run-threat definitely isn't necessary at the quarterback position, albeit it's obviously helpful in situations to have the mobility to escape the pocket and create time.

I'm pretty sure Jarrett Lee is not slow, seeing as how he's listed running a 4.68 on his Rivals recruitment info page. I looked him up and it goes as far to say this.

Per Rivals:

"A pro-style quarterback who can escape the pocket."

I really think once Lee can get his confidence up, next year he'll show people he can run effectively as well as pass. He certainly has the passing ability, regardless of what people want to say about the young quarterback and will give us the best chance to win.

Did you see LSU put more yards on UGA than anyone else did all year? Including UF and GT?

Did you see LSU put more yards on Bama than anyone else all year? Including UF?

This kid makes the natural progression from freshman to sophomore year - taking coaching on looking off the safety, and better judgement on when to throw the ball away - watch out.

Somehow LSU put season highs on Bama and UGA without a running QB. It's not the only way to move the football.

ability doesn't mean anything if you don't perform.

Good point. I don't see how people can be so high on Jefferson after only completely 40% of his passes against two of the poorest SEC defenses and having a rushing average under 3 yards? I'd rather a quarterback who can sit back in the pocket and complete passes rather than have one who is looking to run with the ball first.

I've seen a lot to like in Jefferson - as others have said, looking off the safety is real unusual for a true freshman in his first start.

JJ has the potential to step up and take the job as well - I'm very interested to see what a few weeks of prep time as the starter does for him tomorrow. It did Matt Flynn a world of good in the Peach Bowl a few years ago.

One thing is for sure - we're going to have the best QB competition this spring that I can remember in a long, long, time - maybe ever. Jarrett Lee, JJ, Shep and Garrett all have a real shot at seeing the field next year. I'm fired up for 2009 already.

So completing almost 60% of his passes as a freshman doesn't indicate he has the ability? Minus the evident mistakes (that almost every freshman quarterback experiences) he's shown he can play quarterback in the SEC. He's a tough kid and deserves another shot next year to fix those mistakes.

i'd take the 40 percent if some of the throws are throw aways though not trying to force things.
