In the only action I saw him in, Ohio's Defense really looked pretty good against Ohio State when they played. OSU eventually "wore 'em down", but they gave a good accounting of themselves.

Analogous to the Green Wave D versus Alabama.

Who knows. Could be a good hire. I am a Bob Toledo fan FWIW.

BTW: Cool name!

Like anyone who posts a serious topic - I was just trying to gather some info./opinion.
I don't know much about the guy so I am skeptical.
That said, considering the realties of the position I think most fans would simply like someone who will further Toledo's attempts to reform the defense and take advantage of his recruiting efforts.

Per Colorado State's website. Interesting that he was Asst. Athletic Director. Also served as South Dakota's DC. Why did he have to leave Colorado State as DC to be a DL coach. Something smells kinda funny there. Not a bad resume though.

Does he have that Nebraska "Blackshirt" mentality on D?

The Times-Picayune has confirmed that Steve Stanard will be Tulane's new defensive coordinator. TP article
Excerpts:
- Ohio University defensive line coach Steve Stanard will be Tulane's new defensive coordinator...

- Stanard, 42, has been at Ohio for one year. Prior to that he was the defensive coordinator at Colorado State for five seasons.

- Stanard began his coaching career as a student assistant at Nebraska where he worked with ex-Cornhuskers and current Bobcats Coach Frank Solich.

- Toledo has said he expects no further changes on his staff.

...talk about not passing the eyeball test.

What happened to Tulane's DC from this past year?

Listen, considering the realities/expectations of the position, Stanard's overall resume is OK...and Toledo likes him.

Tulane's former DC, Gilbert, was fired largely due to the poor defensive play following a promising 2-2 start, including an unexpected performance against Alabama.
Some would argue that Gilbert was a scapegoat for Tulane's 8 game losing streak (Tulane lost star RB Andre Anderson and others to injury).

Agreed. This years Tulane team wasn't as good as last years. (see Matt Forte as biggest reason)
As far as Stanard, Colorado State has a good program and Tulane getting there DC is a decent pick up. My only question is did he get fired from there and why?
