text messages from credit cards

I got a text message this morning about "unusual activity" on my Cap One account. Said to call 877.872.6208. It took a few times to get through to this number, but when I did, an automated phone service asked for my account number. It didn't sound right so I hung up and called Cap One. They verified that is not a Cap One number.

Be careful.

It's called "Spear Phishing" and there is a rise in people doing it via text. They want you to go to their very well made up web site where they will install very malicious virus to your computer.

Mom got one this morning. She called and gave them the info, realized what she did, and had to cancel the card.
