yes, he is the interim coach
was this move too soon? I don't think so. This is not a bill stewart replay imo.

Swinney poised to be next head coach
Per the SC The State newspaper, looks like the WR coach turned interim coach has indeed landed the Clemson job.
Can't believe Clemson would can their HC only to hire their former HC's WR coach with no coordinator/head coaching experience. Who knows...maybe in today's financial crisis that we Americans find ourselves in, Clemson was smart to hire a coach they only have to pay 1M for and who can get the same # of wins as other coaches who earn 2.5+Million.
From what I've read, Clemson's AD, Phillips, was the former AD at Okie State who hired Les Miles as the HC for the Cowboys years ago. Who knows...maybe Phillips knows a thing or two about hiring unknown coaches.

Hiring with in never seems to work anymore
You need a complete overhaul IMO
Clemson can't ever get over the hump

Time will tell...but at least the Clemson AD got to watch the WR guy coach 6 games. However, how many of the 4 games Clemson won during his interim gig are attributable to his "coaching" as opposed to CJ Spiller/James Davis taking over games at the end of the season, we will find out next season when Clemson loses both Davis and Spiller to the draft.

I am a little surprised that they didn't go after Bobby Johnson at Vandy. When I was at the AU/Vandy game this year I was looking at his coaching resume and laughed because it was Clemson - Furman - Clemson - Furman etc. It seemed like he would be a good fit and I doubt they would have to go very expensive to match or beat what Vandy is paying him.
Maybe they did ask and he wasn't interested. He has them in a bowl, there can't be much pressure or an extreme level of expectations - after all they are Vandy.

To me, being a good HC involves hiring great coordinators, managing a program, and being a leader of men. Sometimes it has little to do with knowledge of X's and O's - it's mainly the talent and character level of your Johnny's and Joe's.

If I were a Clemson fan I'd be pissed.

Wow.
Former Bama guy, hope he does well there. I don't think he could do much worse.

Terrible decision. Clemson could've easily had their pick in up and coming proven head coaches. It's the best opening out there.

the hire went like most clemson seasons. started out with a lot of promise but ended with massive disappointment

Brian Kelly must have fricked some NCAA hierarchy's daughter. How this guy doesn't have a better job by now, I have no idea.

SOME AT CINCINNATI THINK KELLY IS GONE
Posted by Michael David Smith on November 29, 2008, 3:05 p.m.
We don’t know yet whether Cincinnati coach Brian Kelly is really going to leave to become the next head coach at Notre Dame. But we do know there are people close to the Cincinnati football program who think Kelly is gone.
We’re hearing that people connected to the Cincinnati program think that a deal is already in place for Kelly to coach Notre Dame. There’s even talk about who will lead the football program in its bowl game, which will be a BCS bowl thanks to Cincinnati winning the Big East.
Overall, the mood at Cincinnati is that it’s hard to celebrate a conference championship when you think the coach who got you there is about to bolt.
Of course, Charlie Weis does still have the Notre Dame job, and if he can pull off a miracle upset at USC tonight, all of that talk that Weis is on the way out will disappear. But for now, Weis is in serious jeopardy of being fired, and Kelly appears to be the favorite to replace him.

I think ultimately, Weis gets one more year. If he fricks it up, then he's gone.
Todd Graham to Miss. St. would be perfect for both parties.

Have season tiks. Dabo turned the season around by earning his players' respect after Tommy abomination. Only one loss FSU that was his (appt Tues before GaTech). Besides, CU still lionizes Danny Ford who earned job same way. Admin wanted to see defeat of USC -> throttled, then confirmed Dabo. That being said, always a Bayou Ben-gal!

Brian Kelly is going to make a hellva coach at a major program. If Herby didn't frick us over last year, I would have had no problems with him being our coach
Lucky for us, Tennessee didn't hire him
