With the finances we face today with the over-priced salaries and contracts they all have. And yoy know all the monies coming in are from sponsors and ticket buyers, What effect could this have on the sports industry? OOOOOOOOOOOOOps please move to money board.

None, stadiums will continue to sell out, merchandise will be sold, and tv revenues increase.

As the dollar devalues athletes will demand larger salaries, to compensate for their lost accumulated wealth.

Simple, Stern, Sellig, & Goodell will fly to Washington in their private jets & ask congress for a bailout. Since american morale cannot take the thought of loosing the big 3 they will naturally get the money. Sound familiar?

It all depends on how many people are hit by the recession and how they are going to be with their money. I would expect more fans to stop buying tickets for teams that aren't doing well in shaky markets (Detroit, Cincinnati). However, the big markets with teams that are still doing ok (New York, Boston) will sell out unless the recession really turns into a depression.

I think that it will hurt the other sports that rely more on endorsements. Like GM dropping Tiger Woods.

Like NASCAR? I agree with that.

Exactly. NASCAR is already getting hit bigtime by companies not willing to put up the $$$ that it takes to sponsor a team. It wouldn't surprise me to see some of the less popular races next summer with fields of only 35-40 cars.
PGA is also seeing issues when it comes to sponsorship - Atlanta has lost several tour stops (PGA/LPGA/Senior tour) due to no one stepping up to sponsor the tournaments.
The big 4 will manage because they are central controlled and the teams are franchises. Factor in the revenue sharing and tv contracts and there will be some form of money flow coming in there even if the ticket sales are down. The only place I can see the big sports getting hit are in venue naming rights, but they said today that even with all the crap Citi is going through that they are still pledging to pony up the money for naming rights to the Mets new stadium in NYC.
