With the addition of RS freshman Spencer Mathews to our squad this year, I have been thinking. In this state, we have tremendous talent at the high school level in baseball. However, on a national level, Barbe is considered to be a perennial top-10 team. My question is this: why do we not see more of these kids come to LSU? You would hope we would have a steady pipeline of the boys in blue to LSU...but this does not seem to be the case. What gives?

letting wade leblanc get away from louisiana to go to alabama was a joke and sums up how great of a job smoke did while here

has nothing to do with Louisiana or Alabama. He was committed to McNeese at one time until the head coach took an asst job @ Bama.

Missed out on Nick Bourgois and Wade LeBlanc because other schools gave better schollies.
Others have gone pro like Carmen Angelini (Rice signee), Joe Lawrence, Austin Nagle, etc.

This goes for all top LA HS baseball programs during smoke's time. He was possibly the worst recruiter EVER. I was really pissed when we missed out on Wade Leblanc, then Wade went to Bama and was undefeated as a starter during the regular season. He also told Michael Murray in '02 from Catholic that he was too small to play SS. So Murray was forced to transer to Juco and won National Junior College player of the year and broke 8 school records at Merridian. That really chaps my

Worst recruiter?

he got some of the best kids in the state every year he was here.

If he was good at anything, it was recruiting.
