ZTR Overhaul - Worthwhile?

I have a JD 717a that has served me well since 2004. It has about 400 hours on it. I have changed the deck belt, tires (dry rot), air filters, fuel and oil filters, blades, spark plugs and oil. That's about it. I've kept it lubed. The crankcase recently got unexpectedly washed out with gasoline, but no harm apparently done (it ran for less than a minute before I noticed the smoking and shut it down).
The fuel shut-off solenoid has gotten very slow, it takes about 10-15 seconds to shut off the engine when the key is turned. I can hear a loud bearing-like noise coming from under the seat where the hydraulic pump is and the choke knob has been "sticky" for a long time - the choke works, it just won't stay engaged - which hasn't been a problem. I put a mulching kit on the deck a long time ago (best thing I ever did to it).
I was planning on taking the guard off and trying to figure out the solenoid issue (maybe something just needs a little lubricant) and the loud bearing sound has persisted for two years or so, so I figure a new hydraulic pump is in my near future. Are there any other things that I should just go ahead and replace to insure reliable operation? Hoses? Bearings? Anything?

how much money are we talking about?

If it is a hydro gear ezt they start at $695 each.
Fuel soleniod not that much.
Choke cable easy fix.

If you're doing the repair work yourself and only paying for parts, I'd lean toward the repairs.
I've noticed a common theme in the ztr threads, the older models were built much better than the new models.
Compare the repair costs to the price of a new ztr comparable to you JD, I suspect you will be saving A LOT of money.

Are older zero turns made better than the new ones? Depends on brand.
Will you save money?
Possibly.
Looking at minium of $1400 or more just in parts to replace the transmissions.
Choke soleniod could be gunk on the spring that lifts the soleniod up and down. I would pull out and clean. If not it is a cheap replacement.
That unit was ok nothing special about it.
You should still be under $2,000 if you do the labor to get your unit back in shape.

U count 1,400 - 2,000 a decent deal considering the cost of replacement. I'd be doing all the work myself.

It depends.
If engine good, deck good, and pulleys & spindles good then you might have a deal.
I changed my sister in laws transmissions on her at the time 7 yr old CubCadet RZT. Cost me $375 dealer cost on both the transmissions retail $695 each. The engine was in great shape, spindles & idler pulley were good, and deck was clean. She still running that unit and it is close to 10 yrs old cutting 3 acres.
