I'm moving to a new property that has 2-3 relatively flat acres that I will need to mow. Right now I'm thinking that I'm going to buy a new 60" Hustler SD Raptor ZTR (residential grade), but I looked around and I can get some used commercial grade ZTR's (example Dixie Chopper Silver Eagle with ~300 hours on it) for the same price range ($4-5K). What recommendations do y'all have? Is a 60" ZTR mower worth the extra money compared to a 48" one given the amount of acres I need to mow?

Folks on the outdoor board are really helpful with posts like this.

Not saying this to be a dick. They actually helped me on deciding which ZTR to go with.

Might want to either post there or request this thread to be moved.

FTR I have an acre and went with a 44 inch Gravely.

I thought many actually told you not to get Gravely but you did anyway?

Scag is king but pricey and Hustler/Big Dog are the best for the money.

The Hustler and Skag deal here has 0% for 48 months through Sheffield financial. Can't beat that.

ETA: You'd be a fool to buy a used mower with that many hours at that price no matter the name on it.

i bought a 50 inch Toro Timecutter with the welded deck and the 23 HP, twin cylinder Kawasaki for 3999. It has been outstanding!

I have the 54" Raptor SD, bought March 2014 from Pro-Power. Its been in the shop twice. Blade switch broke, and it threw a belt. I like the mower though. Wish I had opted for the mulching kit though. When I bought the 54" it was $100 more than the 48" so I went with it. I'd prolly go Fastrak if had to do over.

I prefer Ferris. I think a 52" would be fine with that size.

I cut 3.5 acres and I bought the hustler x-one commerical 54" deck. I will never buy another brand mower! It is awesome and very durable. Hustlers are fast and cut great. I upgraded the seat and the motor to one size up. Only thing I wish I would have got is the rear discharge deck. Would be better for keeping the grass and dust blowing back on you when the wind is blowing. And if your land has a few wet spots or isn't in the best shape like mind I bought a set of carsile super grip tires off ebay. Never get stuck again!

Scag or Kubota. Although my neighbor runs a Hustler and hes had only one issue with it (pulley). As to whether you want a 48" or 60" deck, how long do you want the job to take?

Xmark z master is the goat.. I have 1200 hrs and still going strong! I am on it 10 to 15 hours a week. 8 months a year. The thing is built like a tank. Kubota would be my second choice . I know a lot of people who cut commercially and I've seen them leave john deer scag and kubota to go to XMark mainly because they are powerful built strong and easy to work on if u do have a problem.

Have 3-4 acres to mow... Lots of trees bushes ... Using a 48" cub cadet zero turn. Love it. Great product. On year two.

I have a Dixie Chopper.Ten or eleven years old this year, I like it. Put some bad gas in it and had to rebuild the carb, also had to replace the muffler. Rusted out after ten years. Will have to put back tires on it next season, not because they are worn, side walls or dry rotted. What ever you decide, make sure you buy it from someone that can service it. My two cents.

Exmark is the best, hands down. Bro in law has a gravely and it broke down twice this week. Spend the extra and get an exmarkw, if you can.

I've been running a group of 4-6 zero turns for ten years.

Scag ex mark or gravely.

I prefer gravely
