Think I made up my mind to shoulder mount him. Looked at all the trail cam pics from the last couple months and he's cream of the crop.

On the way to the taxi now. Shoulder mount it is. Folks are going to help me out and cover some of the cost for Christmas. Only gonna set me back $200.

I like Euro mounts and have done them with all my mounts.

If its a first or best buck and you want to shoulder mount it go right ahead.

Your taxidermist will simply use another hide if they cannot repair the existing hide. Happens all the time in the taxidermy world.

Congrats...

Good call. I would definitely mount that deer, but I don't really hunt in places with giant deer hah. Especially if he's the biggest deer you've killed on your land. That's a fine buck man. Congrats to you.

All depends on you. I don't mount usually unless it's over 150". I've got dozens of 140"s so wouldn't make sense. I know guys that mount dinks though and are as happy as when I kill a 160". Doesn't matter what anyone thinks but you. I usually pay $400 for a shoulder mount.

Sorry for Rebman601. He is our worst poster, or more probably a State alter/troll trying to make us look bad. He literally does not post a single thing that is bearable to read. All fan bases have them, and this guy is ours.

Beautiful buck.

I think the real issue is space and location to put a shoulder mount. I have two (first buck and biggest buck). But everything I kill from now on no matter how big will be a Euro mount. They are easier to display and seem to "go anywhere" in house, camp, or office. Shoulder mounts often meet with frowns from the wife or GF where they will actually encourage a Euro.

I am going to Africa in summer of 2016 and plan on Euro mounting all the skulls and having rugs made of all the hides. Its cheaper and easier to move around and display that way. I'm not the kind of guy who builds a trophy room, but I have seen some that were really cool. But 100 years from now, your great grandchildren are gonna throw those ratty old things away anyhow.

That's a great looking buck. Glad you decided to shoulder mount him. I would definitely put it on the wall, especially if it was the biggest to date. My first was about that size and he hangs proudly in my home office. My second, which was the son of the first more than likely, is a bit bigger and hangs across from him.

I think it will make a fine addition ot your decor. Nice buck. To me the story or effort behind the deer is more important that score.
