i came so close to pulling the trigger. 3/16ths gauge aluminum .

A new trailer, powder coat the hull, motor. Could have been rigged up exactly like you like for around $20,000.

23' heavy gauge aluminum boat with new 150 for $20,000.

shite, ole boy had to have had $5500 just in aluminum in that build right?

3/16ths gauge aluminum? Nahh. That's what Gaudets and Hankos are built with.

I would have to see the bottom of that thing to form any kind of opinion. One thing I know for sure is there are a couple of guys who are building these aluminum hulls and some of them are straight up death traps.

How the hell someone could spend $20,000 on an aluminum boat is beyond me...

He nailed the deck layout

I would insulate it on my own, but yes. Sell the 150 to tweak it to my prefs (pods, tabs), tighten up those loose storage compartment doors and insulate the shite out of the inside of the compartments. Barebones gauges, nice screen, and you have a bad arse rig.

he said the hull was rated up to a 250. The pic where he's running ,that's a 115 4 stroke on it.

Like i said, for $5500 it was just the hull. I think a 150 would work great on it.

If you have the tools to look under the hood and fix anything wrong with it, its a no brainer. It seems shallow, which is fine for what it is, and I think pods would help with a heavier motor (similar to a Laguna Tigershark). We have a Gaudet and built another 22ft based off of it; it's even quieter than the Gaudet. For 5k, that boat would be a steal if you have access to the necessary equipment.

ole capt. buddy of mine had one of the first Laguna Tigers. Had the 23' with a Yamaha 115 on it. He'd let me take it out anytime i wanted. Sweet boat.

I don't see any cockpit drains, unless those rough cuts in the bulkhead are his version of drains.

The more I look at it, the more it looks like a hot pile of shite.

That's a dealbreaker for an unfinished project boat? You could flip that thing for north of 40k

Um. Yeah. It's a dealbreaker. When water can't drain out of the cockpit and into the bilge, dealbreaker is a word I might use. It's also unsafe.

What makes that so troubling is you don't know how this thing is constructed. He's got slits cut in the bulkhead but no floor drains, you have to ask yourself why. My guess is he doesn't know how to build boats. He probalby went to welding school in Morgan City and decided to cobble this thing together. There is all kinds of things wrong with this boat.

40k what? Dollars? Maybe 40k Rubles but not dollars.

No shite, huh? Like I said, earlier...

I said it'd be a project, hence the use of the word "project" and "flip"
We flipped a lot of alloy boats following the spill, so I guess I'm looking at this differently, but it's a completely different ball game compared to cutting into a glass boat. The possibilities are damn near endless.

For a 23ft custom aluminum cc?

Ok.

I agree that you can't make chicken salad out of chicken shite, but for 5k you could easily turn a profit on this boat.

Look, I enjoy a lot of your posts, and you're more knowledgable than most on here with regards to fishing skinny water and fly fishing, but sometimes it seems like you shite on things just for the sake of shitting on them. This must be one of those times. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree

To be fair, I'm shitting on what appears to be a hack job. If someone pulled this thing into my garage, I wouldn't even take it for a test drive.

Let's just look at the stern hatches and seats. None of the gaps line up and there are no drains or anything to stop water from coming over the rear deck and into the cockpit... which also has no drains. The seats look like he cut and welded the seat pan and frame to an aluminum veneer but gave no structural support. The bulkhead welds are concerning. I would be interested to see his stringer system.

I'm sure you did fine work but having witnessed an aluminum hull with angle material for strakes go arse over tea kettle in a high speed turn, I wish things like this were not on the water with innocent bystanders.
