Working on trailer lights

I've got my trailer lights working for the most part but now when I brake the lights go off so I don't have any brake lights. I checked the ground wire and cleaned the brackets where the lights mount. There are 2 small running lights also that I didn't clean.
Do all of the lights have to ground for it to work? It was suggested to clean the inside of the hitch bc that can act as a ground sometimes also. Any other suggestions?

Here’s the phantom light problem and how to solve it.
Most trailer light kits have short white wires which you are supposed to attach to the trailer, to use the trailer itself to make the grounding circuit.
DON’T RELY ON THE TRAILER TO MAKE THE GROUNDING CIRCUIT!!
Get a spool of white wire and run the grounding circuit all the way back to the plug. Make good air tight wire connections. With a completely wired circuit, the lights won’t flicker. Phantom problem solved.

Going through the same thing. Seems like my aluminum trailer is always having this issue. Do I run a ground to each light in the back?

I asked same question a year ago here and got excellent advice
I ran a common ground line down the trailer and soldered the side light grounds into the main ground lines. Used that heat shrinking wrap and electric tape at the soldering sites. Connected the 2 ground lines where they met at the tongue and then to the 4 prong connector. I also used heavier gauge wire for everything instead of the kits

Yes. Use that heat shrink plastic on the connections so there is no exposed bare wire. The white should go from the plug to each of the tail lights.
