Wondering if anyone had any experience/recs regarding wood swing sets. I have an old one that is falling apart. It was here when we moved in. I have heard horror stories about assembly. So, if anyone had a particular brand they recommend or stay away from, any help is appreciated.

I got one of the about 600 dollar ones from academy few years ago, still holding up well but far as putting together more annoying than nightmare, seemed like a computer nerd that had never built anything designed it

Saw this one at Costco today $999.

More of a swing playhouse combo. Had a built in grill and sink.

We bought a Gorilla playset about 4yrs ago - just re-stained it a couple weeks ago still looks new - you definitely get what you pay for if your kids are going to use it.

I put one togetherness from Toys R Us. Yes, it was a nightmare to put together. I build stuff, and had it to do over, I would have built it myself. The quality of wood with most of them is crap. I have to be very careful when I weedeater around it. Plus, you can buy the slide and swing parts for a custom build.

I I were to over pay for another wood swing, it would be a rainbow brand. Those things are higher dollar, but solid quality construction.

You can build much higher quality, for much cheaper, by building one yourself. You just have to be marginally mechanically inclined, and not have to want it NOW!!!

Get a welding shop to make you an a frame to hang a few basic swings from. Then when the kids move outgrow it hang a cypress swing for you and momma to relax on. My neighbor and several of my friends had the fancy sets with the playhouses, they all said the only things the kid use are the swings.

Forget that wooden stuff. Buy one from Lifetime.

They have decent sales with SAMs and Costco, but expect to spend $1k.

With a couple guys helping especially with the initial uprights and beams it took us a weekend. Beer was involved, in all total about 10hrs we could have knocked it out in a day. Make sure you have good cordless drills.

I don't care what you can save. Don't do it yourself! You've been warned.

I have no intention of doing it myself. I guess im looking for Brands people would recommend. I dont have the skill to figure out how to build one myself and would trust my kids to play on.

Truth. I bought one and thought I would do it myself. After I unpacked 8 bazillion items I realized that I was in over my head. I hired a local handy-man and it took him like 4 days.

If I had to do it again, I get this one hands down.

Had one similar to the Costco pictured. Don't go that route. Wood will crack and splinter within a year or so. Also the particular brand we got was completely held together by 2x4's and 1x4's. I was not impressed.

Rainbow will probably be my next purchase if I don't go with the all metal/plastic.

This looks like a good option as well if you don't mind dropping $20-$30K.

When my kids where little I went with a kit from Lowes. If you are handy with your hands and have a few tools its actually pretty easy.

They basically hand you a BOM and you walk around the store picking up everything you need. They give you very good instructions on putting it all together.

I cut everything one weekend then the next weekend with the help of a buddy we put it together in 6-7 hours.

We put up the Gorilla Frontier - the one we have is a little different than on their site - main differences are we have a wood roof and no hand rails on the ramp. All of our beams have their timber Shield covering as well. Looks almost as good as the day we bought it and it is well broken in.
