Winchester 1200s. Learn me on them...

I just inherited one today. 16ga. I know they are on the cheaper side of the line up, but that's about all I know. Old man said it loved shooting birds with it better than any of his 20 or 12 ga

I had a 120 as a kid, pretty sure it's the youth version of what you have. Mine had Aluminum receiver, plastic trigger housing, I personally couldn't hit shite (bird-wise) with mine b/c the drop was too flat, but did kill several deer with it (20 ga.) Comes apart like an 870 Rem vs. the Mod 12. Has a funky rotating bolt. That's all I got. Reliable shotgun though.

Many people knock the aluminum receiver. I've owned a 20 and a 12 for years. Both shoot great.
FYI - the Winchoke choke tubes are the same thread, etc. as the standard Browning Invector (not the Invector Plus)
Also, the 120 Ranger youth model can be "upgraded" to the adult version with a simple stock change.

One of the smoothest, fastest cycling pump shotguns you will find.

quote:My first shotgun. This is absolutely true. I lost it in '85 at Catahoula. I have hunted with a BPS, Wingmaster and Nova since. Those all looked better I guess, but none actually worked better. If I ever get back into hunting, I may look for a gently used one. If there were ever a synth version...damn.

Agree on the stock switch, I think you'd also need an operating slide (forearm) for a complete conversion.

I think the 1300 stock will fit the 1200.
Hogue sells them for $50 a set
ETA: Just looked it up. The Hogue forend will need some modification.

I got mine for Christmas 23 years ago. 12ga. Came from Walmart...
Only shot gun I had till I bought a cheap o/u for doves a few years ago.
Broke the little piece That grabs the shell to extract but was an easy fix.
When you shoot it, at least the 12, the recoil will start your pump hand back. It takes awhile to get used to and if you double clutch it will do some funky things... once you learn to continue the pump that the shot started, you can get all 3 shots off almost as fast as an auto...

Great gun, my brother had the 16 gauge 1200 and I had the 20 gauge 1400 auto. Both still use these guns. I've had my 1400 for 45 years!

Good deal. Glad to hear the good reports on them. It's in really good shape, minus a couple spots on the barrel. It's at home or I'd post a pic. Maybe I can get off early and run some shells through it

Go use it on some back water mallards bro.

I have one and never could get used to the "pump hand starting back" business. Otherwise, I've never had a problem with the gun itself. Came with a beautiful figured and checkered dark walnut stock.

Is yours a 20ga?
My brother has the 20 and his stock is like you describe.
My 12 is a plain, smooth, light colored walnut, with a few ring grooves in the forend.
always liked his better
