I am putting in a flower bed beneath a live oak tree and am trying to figure out a way to keep roots from growing up into my new bed. Will landscape fabric prevent oak roots from growing to the surface if I tack it down well?

Oak roots can break cement sidewalks and Slabs. Not sure how any the fabric would be any stronger.

Not really a fair comparison. I don't know if fabric will keep the little hair roots out but unlike concrete it will "give" some when a large root pushes on it. So it may work for a few years but I wouldn't plan a long-term bed.

Yes and no, the roots will not normally penetrate the fabric, it simply pushes it in the way they want to travel.

They make a root barrier product but if the tree is well established I think you would have to do some root cutting to install them.

Call an arborist if you want it done correctly.
