I went up there a couple of weeks ago and used stoner hill then headed up river. I caught a couple of small bass but fishing was tough. One of the guys that my family knows there told me that I was waaaay off! Lol. It was my first time so any advice would be much appreciated...

You need to go south. Launch at Red River South on Hwy 71 or Bishops Point (public launch by Lock and Dam #5 off of Hwy 1.

Launching at RRS will put you in the "Port Lake". Large oxbow that you can spend a day fishing. When you go out of the Port Lake. hang a left to go south, or a right to go north towards Jimmie Davis Bridge.

Launching at Bishops Point is a little further South. You can hang a left out of the launch and there are some nice oxbows and backwaters to fish, along with the rock jetties that line the main river.

Pretty much exactly what Pop said. Launch at RRS or BP. Fish the backwaters and oxbows or hit the jetties on the main river. Fall is a great time to fish the Red.

Agree with Pop.

Also, when I moved to Shreveport, I did the exact same thing. Put in at stoner and went North. I caught 1 bass in 12 mile bayou.

I fish South closer to the lock and dam. Much better fishing!

there are no fish or ducks anywhere around the red river.

Right now is really the time to go, just stay ahead of the fronts.

I used to always launch at Clarks. A little bit of a drive but fishing is usually pretty good right there in the marina area and you are close to some other pretty good areas too.

Clarks shut down for good a while back.

They are now selling lots on the water to make a neighborhood.

It was an awesome place though. We launched and hunted out of Clarks in high school. I hated to see it go under, but with the proximity and facilities that RRS created, they couldnt hang on.

ETA: You can launch at Bishops Point on HWY 1 and go almost directly across the river (slight slant) and get to the old Clarks area.

I didn't know that about Clarks. I knew all the circuits started using Red River South but didn't know why. Haven't fished there since probably 2011 or 12.

Get yoursef a kayak That's how Polar Pop and I get after it. Do you have access to Barksdale? If so, there is some great fishing in there.

Caspiana? I've done pretty good out there with yoyo's. Even caught a 5# bass on one.

But it was a few years back.

Try to find a Native Ultimate 14 kayak. They make a tandem version, but the regular version for one person will be fine to put you and your son in. Flag lake is always a great spot to go. There is a launch on the west side about half-way up the lake. Just start fishing the cypress trees. The bream should be fairly easy to locate in there with worms or crickets.

Like Coco said, get a tandem and get after it.

There is so much water to fish on base. Flag Lake, Austin pond, Juanitas Pond, Red Horse pond, Moon Lake, Harmon, etc.

You can make an entire day of just pond hopping the road that goes to Harmon.

Spots off base - Caddo has some kayak friendly places, Cross Lake on the west end, Refuge off of Teague, etc.
