I want to buy a dozen mallards or so for the neighborhood pond in my backyard. Where can I buy some "domestic" mallards that won't fly away?

Also, if I buy ducklings what do I have to do to raise them? If I buy some now, will they make it thru the winter?

this is not really the time of year to be buying poultry. I would wait until the spring and buy some ducklings, so they will feel at home in your pond and not try to leave.

as someone else said, no matter what you want, the market bulletin is your best bet.

Clip their wings and they won't be going anywhere.

Bad time of year to find em at feed store, but check with backyardchickens.com. You'll find plenty of breeders

Raising some Rouen's now. Their a domesticated meat mallard that wont fly. Probably your best bet. Will need to keep them protected until 6 or 7 weeks, I learned the hard way that young ducklings are prime targets for hawks.

I once found a baby mourning dove in my front yard and threw him on the roof to keep him safe from my cat; I didn't see the red-tailed hawk sitting in the tree across the street.
