I don't want to fill my feeders too early, but I am getting anxious with all of this spring-like weather.

My go to rule is to fill them when the buckeye trees start blooming.

There are actually some western species of hummers that have been found to winter here and will visit feeders The ruby throated is the only one that breeds here but in winter, reports of Anna's, black-chinned, and a few others pop up.

My wife keeps them filled all year.
Have some around all year.
The ones from up north winter over down here. We have quite a few hanging around now. More during summer.

Year round, especially when we have a mild winter like the last couple of years.
