There should be two species of yellowfin. The ones caught in the pacific (not the ones you are referring to), grow much larger and have shorter dorsal fins.

OT... I think I remember that trip. Had to talk you out of a day of diving to go Git'Em....

My personal best is #116. 10 miles our of South Pass in a 19 ft Aqua Sport. Fought the beast for 2.5 hours on bottom fishing gear.

We, and I think I speak for the entire board, would like to borrow the scale you used.

What you need a scale for? Last time you caught a fish cameras hadn't even been invented yet.

Obviously I have caught one well over 2,000 lbs at the rocks in South pass after I caught a Tarpon on a snoopy rod.

Best was pre Katrina, 168 lbs I think? on the Lump, couldn't fish the next day just drove the boat and deck handed that fish beat me up so bad, but I got him in without passing the pole around. Won't do that again either, now if I'm on the rod and a big one hits I just pass it on, I'd much rather an 80 lber than a 150.

I haven't caught many but here is my biggest from a few years ago. Probably 60-70lbs if I had to guess and I don't remember where we were.

I was unaware of any different species of yellowfin. Here's one caught out of California that weighed 405 lbs. Dorsal fins look just like ours here.
