What are the ramifications of an unlicensed fisherman fishing in your boat?

Long story short. FIL wants to go fishing with me but is to lazy to go buy a fishing license. I have a current fishing license. If we get stopped by a game warden am I at fault for being the owner of the boat and him fishing without an license with me?

Is he paying you to charter? If not, he's on his own.

Nope, then I am not going to worry about it one bit. You can only tell somebody to go to Wal-Mart and buy a license so many times.

You can buy one online or on the phone.

But hanging him out to dry will be much more fun. Is he over 60 for goodness sakes?

What if you have more than a one man limit of _______ fish? Does the unlicensed fisherman automatically get ticketed for the excess fish also?

Very good question, if not I wouldn't let them on the boat.

I would not keep more than my limit in that situation. Otherwise he takes the lump whether in possession or not.

If you're fishing tomorrow, I wouldn't worry about limits.

If the game warden see's him fishing(and they will), I would think he's responsible for a 2nd limit.

Why don't you two work together on the ride down and get him a license on the phone? Then make up and drink a beer. Sounds like you hate the man.

The MAN is his elder and is too lazy to be legal. Yeah, I agree.
My days of walking the fence died long ago, I don't involve my-
self with those that do anymore.

It seems very odd that a 60 year old man is too irresponsible to buy a $5 fishing license.

You're not responsible for the co-angler. Don't be over the limit and you'll be good. If he doesn't want to buy a license, that's on him. They won't ever ask you why you brought someone fishing without a license. They'll just write him a ticket. Same with hunting. If you and a buddy go duck hunting and he was too stupid to get a license, they won't ask "well why did you bring someone hunting that doesn't have a license".....
