Want to see a picture of a desecrated rare Persian contract C96 Broomhandle?

I don't own this one any more but I found a old picture I had of it on my hard drive and though I would share my story. The story begins as I traded this guy a box of communist embargo cigars and $300 for an old Broomhandle Mauser he had laying around. It was in shootable condition all the numbers matched and had been modified to shoot 9mmx19.
I was always nervous shooting it because of the age. Every time I pulled the trigger all I could think about was the 100 year old steel giving away and the bolt hitting me in the face so I only shot it a few times. After owning it for several years I finally did some research on it. The serial number 154149 fell into the serial number range of the Persia contract mausers (154000 to 154999) but my particular piece did not have the distinctive Sun Lion stamped onto the side. But, upon closer inspection you can clearly see old traces of the Sun Lion that had not been completely ground away. So someone took one of the rarest and most distinctive and collectable Broomhandles ground away the Mona Lisa stamped on it's side and turned a gem into jelly. I eventually had a collector contact me who offered me a price above what a normal Broomhandle would be worth but far less than the value of Persian contract C96. It makes me sad every time I think of it.

And what should it have sold for?

How much you sell it for?
IIRC $1k. Non persians were going for about $500-600. I saw Persian contract mausers going for anywhere from $2.5k-$4k at the time. This was early 2000's.
