Honestly never thought of that. Are they just treated pine?
I really wanted them to be that dark color for parking at my camp.
Guess I could always stain them...

Be careful cause some have creosote in them and that shite will eat your arse up if you cut them

they're creosote. there's a stack of them beside LA 1 south just north of White Castle. Help yourself, just wear a hard hat and gloves and talk like a railroad worker if anyone says something.

Creosote treated, not the treated pine timbers. They are true railroad ties, I think the cost about 20 or so per. It's been a few years, so not sure exactly on the price

Is this in BR?
Oh yeah, that shite will burn your skin on a hot day. I got it all over my arms and in my eyes a couple of times drilling holes in them to bolt them to a bridge. You can actually see the sheen on the water

The RR sells used ones they've changed from time to time. Not sure how to find out when.
Don't borrow any, as far as I know it's a federal issue.

There is a bunch just sittin by the tracks on Granberry Rd. off of Hwy 27 in DeRidder. The city would probably let you haul them off for free.

Yeah, frick that, not going to jail over a few hundred bucks. I'll try Lowe's and then just call a RR company.

maybe contact someone with the state. I live in Iberia Parish and they just redid the tracks along hwy 182. they have a few stacks with at least a couple of hundred per stack.

Call a real lumberyard. Not a big box store.

Definitely don't take them off the side of the road/rail...it is a federal offense...have heard people say the railroad use to sell them before but not anymore...they are redoing a lot of the rail from addis to livonia and are changing to concrete ties...there are many wood ties between the places I said...you would have to call up just not sure which place to call directly..try google search union pacific addis and start with a manager there...that's about all the help I can offer..
