First, the pup looks great and I remember the ride home with mine like it was yesterday. I agree with a lot of things said and I disagree with a lot too. The chew toy thing is BS. They will chew but it has no effects on the dog being hard or soft mouth. Force fetching will simply just reinforce everythinh you taught from this point and moving forward. For people that are getting negative results from a collar that’s more than likely because they didn’t collar condition. I truly believe all labs have a strong desire to please. Depending on how much time you spend with them and how much natural born drive they have will be the difference between a gun dog and field trial dog. They will all want to fetch and please it solely depends on how you get there and how many holes you have in your program to determine if the dog is successful or not. Your determination of success may differ from mine. What I mean by that is can the dog run a 300 yard mark/blind may be right for some and others may be stastified throwing a 1/2 box of shells in the water to get one duck. For me, when I say back they better run till I blow the whistle. It’s all about what you expect and how you go about the fundamentals is how successful the dog will be.
