I've never been around a GSP for an extended amount of time so I can't really comment on the differences but from what I've been told, the GWP is a little more laid back and the differences basically stop at the appearance. As far as my pup goes, he's not really hyper, just adventurous and likes to nose around a lot. He's in his kennel for most of the day so he's got a lot of energy when I get home and let him run around in the evenings. He doesn't chew anything and rarely barks unless he gets really worked up by our female lab at the house when they play. Upkeep is pretty nonexistent as I have probably bathed him 4 or 5 times since I got him in January. Really an awesome dog with a ton of drive for anything fur and feather and listens pretty well for his age. Also, this dude would probably die of fetching before he gave it up. He's relentless in his pursuit and sometimes stubborn, but he's a male and that's what I wanted out of him. Can't wait to get him started on training for the various hunt tests that the VDD will put him through. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me.

Fitz is lookin good brotha, love the blaze running down his snout! DD's/GWP's coats are freaking awesome.
I love my GSP's, best dogs I've owned, but if I would have done more research, I would have probably ended up with a DD. By far one of the coolest looking dogs IMO.
Always good to get him to start loving the bumper now. Will make force fetch that much easier when it comes time.

Thanks dude, I haven't forgotten you just gonna give it a little more time until I start some more advanced training and then we can meet up.
ETA: yeah he LOVES the bumper or anything I throw. He doesn't even like to be touched when he's fetching

One more questions.
Is the length of your pups coat its natural/permanent length? When I seach DD/GWP google gives me pictures of dogs with coats like yours and then some that seem to be about 4 inches long. Are there different lengths or are some just trimmed up or what?

My neighbor has one. Good looking dogs, but I heard they are pricey.

This is true to a point. Both breeds need ample amounts of exercise at least 5 times a week. I take mine to run, off leash, every day for about an hour or so, if I'm not training them that day. And because of that, majority of the time they are at the house, they are complete couch potatoes.
Pointing breeds aren't really barkers, its not in their nature. Unless someone they don't know well is walking up our drive way, they don't bark.
Temperament, this can go for both GSP and DD/GWP - they are very patient dogs, awesome with kids. Sometimes I'll try to test the waters with my three of mine and try to get them to nip/growl/snap at me, and none of them have even raised a lip at me.
I cant comment really on the upkeep of a GWP, I'd assume it's a little bit more upkeep than a GSP, which is pretty much 0 upkeep, but not by much, nothing that should deter you from getting a DD/GWP though.
One thing I really like about a DD/GWP over a GSP, is the ability to take the cold much better, I feel bad for my guy shivering in the duck blind sometimes.
You definitely won't regret getting a DD/GWP over a lab!

My dad has a female that he got in the fall. She's super hyper, constantly grabbing stuff and running off with it, jumps up all the time, still occasionally gets excited and pees the floor... Typical puppy stuff I guess. Yours sounds much more mild-mannered.
As far as being a sports dog, she has done very well. My dad brought her to a competition in Texas and her mom got first place. I think she pretty well also just not as exceptional as her mom.

Varies by pup. A few out of this litter had long hair all over their head by 7weeks old, whereas Fitz just had the scruff on his chin. At first I wanted wanted one of the longer hair ones, but decided on a shorter hair one. They all have the beards, just some have longer hair all together.

Good to know that you can tell that early on, since most places don't let you take home the pups till 8-10 weeks I guess you know the hair length before you officially get them. I would want one with the same coat as yours.

Bapple, mine still has some accidents as well, but I think he has a little separation anxiety, but I'm working on it. As far as the jumping, he loves to jump as well (bad habit learned from my roommates dog) and I'm working on stopping that quickly. I can walk around the neighborhood with him off the leash and he won't go far. They say don't use negative reinforcement with a puppy, but if I wouldn't have, he would be a wild child.

Yeah the breeder can tell pretty early on how the "furnishing" will turn out. If they're longer on the body, I don't see why trimming them a bit would be a problem at all.

People always say that about my 3. Got lucky i guess? Idk. But once you let them out in a field off leash, they will not stop until i make them. My laziest dog in the house, is the most prey driven dog I've ever met in my life. My dad had to pull him out from underneath a car one time and had a not yet full grown, but still decent sized raccoon pinned down, and would't let it go.
Puppies/dogs get destructive when they are bored and have built up energy. Obedience training and lots of exercise are key to living with a breed of dog that is known to be high energy.

That is some serious ear fringe he has going on, looking good. I would much rather a DD heavy on the furnishings than a "slick."
