Type of paint for a fiberglass pirogue

I have a fiberglass pirogue that is about 7.5 feet long and 24 inches at the widest point that I need to repaint.
1. What type of paint should I use? What method can I use to estimate the amount I will need. (is a single coat sufficient?)
2. How should I go about repainting and what tools would I need for the job?
I only use the boat about two to three times a month for short fishing trips. Generally I launch by dragging across grass/mud to get to the lakes (fresh water) so it doesn't take much abuse. My goal is to do the job on a minimized budget. If the cost of the job was to push say $100 total then I would definitely need to rethink the paint job and start looking at used kayaks. I am located in Orlando in case weather / temperature plays a part in the painting process.
If I left out any critical details please let me know and I will provide them. Any input is appreciated.

I've painted a fiberglass boat with Interlux Perfection 2 part paint. Not sure they make a flat version though. I assume that is what you will want on a pirogue if you use it for hunting. The Interlux I used has a high gloss that has been very durable. The fumes are bad so you will need an inexpensive respirator. Home Depot sells them. Shop around and you can get the paint for about $50. I had the local West Marine price match the lowest internet pricing. I used higher quality foam brushes for application. It does go on thin and will require multiple coats. The finish will look questionable until you get a few coats applied. You should have no trouble with one can.

I went to Lowe's, bought the discounted latex paints that people brought back because color was off. I mixed them until I got a grey/OD green neutral color, and went to town. 15 years, and still no flaking.

Thanks for the replies, I will shop around a bit and most likely take advantage of the West Marine price match.
