FG knot is best but a pain to tie... and no way am I doing it on the water. I use the "lefty kreh leader knot". It is even easier than a surgeons loop and I have never had one fail. It will bite a little on a micro guide if you are fishing with heavier line but other than that it is bulletproof.

Why two different ones?

That double uni doesnt exactly look easy...
It's the easiest fishing knot ever. I use it for everything but drop shot. For leaders, I use a swivel.

The pictures make it look worse than it is.

Uni is more symmetrical and slower to tie than the loop. I can tie a loop in seconds and have you back in The water without my readers on.
I tie most of the leaders on my boat.

Lol this is a huge issue for me too!

I just wondered why leaders being used for different baits would be tied differently. I’m going to try the surgeons and see how it works out as I like the idea of it being doable basically without looking.

Surgeon's is even easier than uni to uni. Never had one fail me.

Any loop to loop joinder is problematic, especially braid to non-braid. The braid cuts the non-braid like a knife.

Have always done double uni. Pretty much use uni for almost everything.

Would be nice to have something I can do without glasses. I just looked at that Shin knot. Looks interesting

A I have caught tons of reds, trouts, Yuge African drum, heads and haven’t broke at the knot. Been using the loop for ten + years with braid.

I tie each to a swivel. Keeps your braid from getting twisted.

I use the uni to uni. The Shin's knot is supposed to be the best knot for line to line. I’ve tried the FG knot, but it’s hard as hell!

I am using 4-8lb leader material. Braid and braid-like lines cut those fast.

I've considered doing this as well. It's not like I can really reel through my fg knot without it feeling like I'm destroying the end guide so I just keep it long. With a swivel I could just tie a polmar knot which is my go to.

The trick to tying the FG is getting two wooden dowels or just a couple of sticks from the back yard, wrap the braid around one and the flouro around the other, and pull until the braid becomes translucent the whole way down the knot. I have not found any other way to pull it tight. I use a 7’-8’ flouro top shot so I don’t have to tie that knot too often.
