Turkey hunters I have a question.

A buddy of mine killed his first turkey today and neither one of us know much about what is considered a nice turkey. The beard is 8" and weighs around 20 - 25 lbs. I also hear the leg meat isn't worth keeping. Suggestions on cooking ideas are welcomed as well. SOB killed it in less than a hour just walking in the woods. TIA.

Just breast it. Cut into strips and fry it. Pretty good that way. 8" beard is not bad. Means it's at least a 2 yr old bird most likely. How long were the spurs? That's the best indicator of how good the bird is. And pics are required. Make sure to include a foot or the die hards will bash you.

Soak small size pieces of breast in butter milk and louisiana hot sauce over night. Batter with zararains chicken fry. Once taken out of fryer sprinkle with some lemon pepper
