With all the warm weather and lack of a real winter can we expect some actually gobbling on opening weekend this year ?

Turkeys all died in that ice storm this year. Might as well sell your turkey stuff.

My turkeys are gobbling good.
FWIW: I don't see a lot of correlation between gobbling and killing. A gobbler with a bunch of hens will often gobble his arse off early in the season. But he's really hard to kill.
Early, I stay away from big groups, and especially when I hear multiple birds gobbling from the same location. I would much rather go to a single bird off to the side who wasn't gobbling as much. That's more likely to be a subordinate 2yo.
Later in the season, I often hear less gobbling, but do more killing. Especially later in the morning and into the afternoon.

Thanks any reports from central Mississippi? I am going opening day to Delta wildlife near redwood to do some camp work and thought I would scout and hunt a little too.

Not a big turkey hunter but will be in MS on Friday. I see the weather is supposed to go from 53/41 on Thursday to 70 on Friday. How will the birds generally react to this kinda weather?

I knew you and I were hoping a real turkey hunter would answer u but since they didn't I will try. I understand that they like warm sunny days the best

alot of it depends on the birds and their location. When it is prime time, the weather doesnt play much a factor. Kind of like deer hunting in the rut. When the deer are in rut, the weather doesnt matter. I have heard them when it was 40 degrees, go back two days later when its 65 and not a sound. If that forecast stays true, good chance the birds in your area will be echoing thunder at day break

Yeah generally the better the day weather wise the better for turkey hunting. Rainy days can be very good though also, as well as overcast dark days as they prefer to be able to see so they get out in the fields more and their paths can be more predictable. Really windy days for example are very difficult to hunt them traditionally as it is hard to hear each other. Also, some birds don't like to gobble when its windy as it gives away their location but their eyesight is not as useful to spot predators as there is so much movement from the winds. So sometimes with fronts and what not it is better to kinda deer hunt them, set out some decoys where you think they'll be and sit and wait for longer than normal. Or do the opposite and cover as much ground as possible to find a bird that is vocal.
To answer above questions because I'm sure someone will chime in about it, gobbling and breeding don't necessarily coincide. So gobbling and the ability to kill them don't always either. But its usually a lot more fun and the most fun to hunt them when they are gobbling, whether they are breeding and willing to work or not. So often you can hear a bunch of gobbling but they are henned up or it can be too early to breed and they will gobble off the roost a bunch but not want to work. The good thing about gobbling though is that they can be found vocally and sometimes their paths can be predicted.
While everyone prefers to call in birds, the older I've gotten the more I have found that to actually kill them you have much more luck intercepting them by being where they want to go. Sometimes that includes calling, and sometimes not. But I now try more to figure out where they will go, and then call them. Then to call to them, and try to get them to come to me.
