Thinking about using one. How stable are they? Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

We've got three tripods on our land. They're great, especially in cutovers with no good trees to climb. I've never had any issues with stability and sometimes actually prefer them over ladder stands.

Side note, two of our tripods are old as hell (no clue of the age, but definitely old) and they are still sturdy as they always have been.

How do you camouflage them or do you just put them close to a tree/background that will mask your movements?

They make a wrap for them that you can buy. We prefer to butt them up against a tree, but sometimes it's just not possible in a cutover. I've never spooked a deer in one (that I know of).

They aren't worth a shite for a full grown fella, IMO.

Burlap or military webbing around the basket. We replace it every year. It also backs up to a line of willows that masks you if the deer are looking from most directions.

We have one that has lasted for at least 15 years and my brother in law kills something out of it every year. We check the legs, etc. every year to make sure it's all in good order.

Back it up to a tree with high limbs for cover, and strap it like a lean to. Then cut limbs around the stand at stand height. You’ll see the deer, and if placed properly, they’ll never know you’re there. One of our best stands is a tripod.

Recommend a 2 man for more room. Google is your friend for best brands. I messed up and bought Walmart specials. Hardly any room, and only 300lb limit. That’s why we strapped it to a tree.

I have one on a pipeline and love it

Make sure the railings are high enough to use as a rest and hopefully with some burlap cover you up, mine aren't and are rusted up so I have a bipod stick rest in my stand for long shots.

Don’t laugh too hard at me…but I use old artificial Christmas tree limbs on my ladder stands. Easy to bend and wrap/zip tie, stays green forever, and you can get all you want for free after Christmas when people trash old ones. I’ve never painted any of it but you probably could make it better by doing it a little.

My favorite has been the Summit with the boat seat. Not sure if they make it anymore.
Put a 2X4 from one rail to another and put a sandbag on it for a rest for the long shots.
I’ve never had trouble with deer seeing me.

I still use 2 of the old strong built tripods. They are from the late 90’s if I had to guess. I like them for open areas or on logging roads. I took one and made a roof for it and closed it in. The kids call it the tri box .

if you are looking for more room, we have 6 quad pod stands from Academy, I really like these. The Base is 10' off the ground it has lots of room. We use the double because most of our setups we take kids.
The seats are supper comfortable also.
Easy to put up with 2 guys.
If you have a trailer or SxS you can build most of it before you head to the field which helps alot.
I think they make a single man also.

I have been using these on foodplots instead of box stands, easier to put up, more comfortable.

This 100% I almost never hunt out of box stands anymore. They're loud, usually uncomfortable, and I can't hear a damn thing outside of them. I like to at least maybe hear the deer coming.

The other good thing about these, you dont have to worry about rats/snakes/owls/coons/bees and other critters getting into them,

Makes the less work every yr

Love my tripod. I tossed the stakes that came with it, got some rebar and drove in each leg about 16" deep
