I went hunting this weekend and could not reach several due to hunting with my 12 ga and 2 3/4" #6. How is it hunting with a 22 and a scope? I do have a 10/22 with a decent scope and have never tried it hunting for squirrels.

It's much tougher with a .22 if you do it right. Head shots only, no misses allowed. Shooting a squirrel in the ribs with a .22 is like shooting a deer in the ribs with a howitzer.

It can be alot of fun with ano accurate 22 rifle. Just alot of leaves on the trees this early in the season.

I can barely hit them with a 12 ga :)

BTW - Try low brass 8's , I swear by them

shotgun hunting for squirrels is just no fun

its loud and it scares everything away after 1 shot

nothing more fun than finding a tree with several squirrels in it and sniping each one a shot at a time

Sitting in a pecan orchard with a .22 is what's no fun. Still hunting/stalking through the open woods for bushy tails is the way to go.

A .22 doesn't? And I regularly kill multiple squirrels out of a tree with a shotgun..

I'll just leave this here...:

This haha. I actually still use the old .410 crack barrel I started out with as a kid. Fun little gun... especially for tree critters

Bulldozing through the woods with a 12 ga is just wayyyyyyyyyy too easy.

Getting the drop on an oak tree full of red squirrels with a .22 is fun as hell. It's challenging and rewarding.

Psssh. I'll always do it with the shotgun. It's better because it is so take that.

And, FWIW, the .17hmr is blast for shooting the treerats.

Who does that? The fun part is the stalk. Walk when the wind blows. Watch for movement when it stops.

Always go with the .22. Cat squirrels are a huge challenge. They never sit still. Early season like now, the leaves in the trees make it much more challenging finding an open shot. And I don't like having to clean out all that shot in my squirrels

And then try to get a head shot on it with the twice deuce.

Squirrel hunting with a .22 is significantly more challenging and significantly more fun than doing it with a shotgun. Tis not debatable.

Are you from the prairie or something? Those SOBs hate squirrels. I mean HATEEEEE them with a deep burning passion. They will only squirrel hunt with a 12 gauge (or a 10 if they've got one) because absolutely every squirrel seen must die.

Started exclusively with .22 last year. I think it's more fun but also used a 16 ga model 12 many years and enjoyed that, too. No shot in the meat is nice with deuce-deuce.
