Bought a 2010 back in Dec and immediately had an issue with the transmission. Brought it back and they assured me it was just the program and reset it.

3 months later it's doing it again, service rep told me to just disconnect the negative post to factory reset the program.

Do I need to push for them to spend some money and replace something in the computer? Is this a precursor to some major issues down the road?

I have an extended warranty for 3 more years but once that's gone...

I'd try to reset it first, but any other issue and I would definatly be in there everytime is had a hicup. Have you looked at service history? At this point I would be worried someone else got tired of fighting this and unloaded it.

Nothing like this was listed on service history just routine maintenance all done at a Ford dealer.

I just don't want to get stuck with a bum computer/program the second my warranty runs out

Describe your issue in a bit more detail. Slipping out of gear? Failing to engage a gear? Not shifting into reverse reliably? etc...

No doubt. Southern Chevrolet in Alexandria was like that. Took mine in for using oil 4 times over a year and they kept changing a seal here or there and telling it wasnt leaking. I was bout to go through the roof. I knew it wasn't leaking, I park in the same spot everyday on concrete, IT'S USING OIL!!! And it was all over the web what was wrong with the 07-08 5.3's. I finally took it to a small dealership down the road and they immediately did an oil consumption test and rebuilt the motor.
What I don't get, is why do they not want the warranty work? The manufacturer pays them well and they act like they will be taking a loss for doing it.

Warranty work pays crap next to customer pay work. I've worked for BMW, GM, and several independant shops back in the day. CUSTOMER PAY IS THE BREAD AND BUTTER FOR TECHS. Granted. some warranty jobs you can beat the labor units, but most you will just break even or lose your arse on.

That GM dealer should have known to do a consumption test right away. It is a very common problem.

Didn't realize that it didn't pay. They knew what the problem was. Hell I did with 5 minutes of research and a few friends with GM trucks.

Sounds like what your saying is they cant screw the manufacturer but they can the customer

All the above. It will slip/stick and the check engine light will engage. I'll pull over, kill it, crank it back up and it's fine for a few more hours.

That would get old fast. I would drive it by everytime the light comes on and show them. Can you bring it somewhere else? I had to do that finally and got excellent service. Went from nothing being done to getting my block and everything sent back to chevy and basically a new motor so it was all the difference in the world at a different dealer.

Purchased it an hour from the house. I told them I wouldn't be driving it back up there that I would be sending it to a local ford dealer by the house, they seemed ok with it.

Dealerships always take better care of customers that purchase from them. Typically stuff like loaners, covering stuff with warranty that really shoudln't be, etc. I would make the trip and bring it back to the dealership you bought it from, you'll probably get much better results.

Took their crew 8 days to figure out it was a programming issue after they "called in a corporate engineer"

I'll take my chances with the local guys, lol

Bought in Alexandria (don't want to offend anyone but) that isn't exactly the cream of the crop populous up there.

Take a look at most chrysler manuals. They say 1qt per 1k is okay, just so they dont have to do shite

Hixson? I may be able to help you. Where I bought my last one too and never had better service. Get a loaner even for oil changes. I have a good connection there though and he hooks me up.
